Draco gave some useful ideas, but they weren't enough. Hermione was fretting more than Harry about this. When they were searching the library, Dumbledore called Ron into his office. What for she didn't know. As far as Hermione knew the boys hadn't been up to any mischief recently. But the next day, when Hermione still didn't see Ron, something clicked. The song had said it would take away something the person loved a lot. Maybe it meant someone. Like a certain best friend. She had to tell Harry. She sped up to the boys' dorm, not caring about the stinky socks and trainers strewn all over the floor, and found that Harry was up and holding some sort of seaweed? He quickly told Hermione of his plan and that an unlikely hero had come to his rescue. Neville. He had given Harry the gilyweed (a plant she didn't know of, she didn't like herbology that much) and he had told Harry it would keep him breathing underwater for an hour. Then Hermione showed him her findings. From her logical side, they were probably hidden somewhere in the Black Lake and Harry had to find Ron and 'save' him. They had about 10 minutes to the task, so plan formulating had to be fast and they had to do it while running down to the lake.

They both were able to do it and had a rough idea of the task and what Harry could do. Everyone was gathered on a makeshift deck and the champions were getting ready. Harry arrived just in time. when Dumbledore made them all go in Harry swallowed the gillyweed, gagging and went into the lake. The moment he went in Hermione feared he wouldn't make it out. But when he jumped out of the lake, she saw he had gills! So he could breathe! Yes. She knew Viktor was down there too, but she didn't care about him. She was over him. Anyway he was probably rescuing the girl from Beaux Batons with whom he had been snogging his face off. Not like she cared. She had Draco now.

The race continued. Cedric came up first, and then Viktor, and then Fleur dropped out. Harry still hadn't surfaced. Omg what if he drowned and died! That would be horrible. But Harry came up last dragging along with him Ron and Fleur's sister presumably. Harry had taken the message too seriously. He thought they would actually die. He was being the hero again. But when she went to slap him and hug him, Viktor Krum pulled her away. "Herm-ninny vhy did you run avay from me at the ball?" now Hermione wanted to slap him in the face. She hotly replied, her temper rising, "Viktor honestly what do you expect? If your date finds you kissing someone else wouldn't she be hurt? Anyway, why did you even ask me out if you were planning to get me mad?" at this Viktor looked flustered. "Vell, I'm sorry, I vas had drank a lot of Firewhiskey that night. It just came to me. I did not think of your feelings." Hermione accepted his apology but suddenly one of the poles fell down with a bANG! The last face she saw was Viktor's before all was black...
