The next day...

Draco Malfoy walked into the Great Hall, shirt neatly pressed, collar high, looking like the picture of superiority. He looked around, for the massive bush of brown but was puzzled to not see it. This was unlike Granger, for she was usually on time. The next class was transfiguration and it was one of her favourite subjects. Still though, there was no sign of her. Halfway through the lesson, she stumbled in, her blouse untucked, her robes wrinkled. "Sorry Professor...Overslept...late" she managed to say, panting and gasping. Professor McGonagall looked appalled at the sight of her favourite student like this and merely said "Yes Miss Granger. I hope this will not occur again. Please be seated." And continued to teach about transfiguring animals into water goblets. This puzzled Draco greatly because Hermione had never in her life been late for anything and certainly not showing up like that. Besides Transfiguration was practically her favourite lesson. He resolved to ask her after this boring lesson.

After class...

Hermione's POV

She was soo sleepy. Hermione had stayed up late the previous night, researching spells to help Harry and trying to find out any good spells and trying to catch up with homework. And on top of that, in the mood she was, there was the biggest git in history. Draco Malfoywas trying to run behind and catch up with her. She could hear his annoying voice behind her, "Oi Granger can you wait up for a minute!" Even though she didn't stop, he still managed to block her with his taller than her stature. Ugh, she hated that she was shorter than him. He blocked her and then pulled her into an empty classroom. She groaned and tried to free herself, but his grip was like steel. After that, he cast locking charms on the door. When he was distracted, she put a slight burning charm on him arm, causing him to yelp in surprise. Then Hermione realised that she was still locked in there with him, alone. She slowly raised her chocolate irises to match his molten silver ones. She settled a fiery gaze on him and coldly said, "Why did you bring me here? I don't want to be within a foot of you, ferret." Draco seemed slightly taken aback by the heat in her voice. Ha! See, she could control him. This caused her to smile a little bit. Ugh, and that spoiled the effect. He immediately smirked slightly kindly and that made her grumble. He made himself comfortable, casually leaning on the wall his arms crossed on his proper school uniform. Then he caught her off guard and narrowed his eyes in seriousness and asked, "Look Granger, I have a proposition. Do you want to help me bring You-Know-Who down? All this thing with Potter reeks of him. It's just like something he would do. But, you can't say anything to Potter or anyone else. Not even Virgo. I know he's my brother but I don't feel that comfortable around him. I know you think I'm bad, but I'm on the good side. So just hear me out. I really think that you are the one only person as smart as me who can help bring him down. Besides, Potter's too ignorant and rash. He doesn't know the meaning of subtlety. (at this Hermione rolled her eyes but it was true). So will you help me or not?"

This made Hermione silent for a bit as she contemplated her options. She knew Harry wouldn't be okay with this. but Malfoy was right. She was the smartest witch of her age. Also, she knew all about family problems. Her parents wanted her to be the best of the best and often pressured her to a point that she would break, but she still loved them. But there seemed a catch in his plan, how would she know he wouldn't treat her the way he did? As if reading her mind he immediately said, "I know you think I hate you but the name calling and stuff is just for outside façade. Actually, I don't like you much Granger but, it's for the greater good."

Of course, phew, he still hated her. It would have been extremely weird if he was nice to her. After thinking of the various possibilities she gave a slight nod to show that she agreed. Draco nodded back in return, his face visibly more relaxed that she didn't decline. With that, Draco got down to business and he told her about all his suspicions and they discussed what they should do prior to the first task so that Harry would stay alive and nothing bad would happen. With that, they parted ways, leaving Hermione to her own thoughts. Draco had changed quite a bit. For starters, he used lesser foul language and he would be more cordial to her. Also, he seemed quite sure about defeating Voldemort. Besides, he was right about one thing. Harry. Could. Not. Know.
