We all stand there silent. The lingering question posed by Travis sits and rings in our heads. Well, at least in mine. It feels like a never-ending high pitched alarm blaring in my head.
Fuck, I knew I shouldn't have told them. What what was I thinking?
"How-how did she teach you?" Lacey steps forward towards me.
"We would just talk. I asked what color things were and she would describe them in such beautiful and great detail. Just over the span of a few weeks, I started to be able to see yellow and since then the other colors just peak through the greyness that surrounds us. I can almost see everything now." The other look at me with mix expressions. Lacey and Tyler are in awe, Travis looks skeptical, but Clarabell I can't read. She is emotionless.
"So. . .you can see other colors?" Travis says slowly.
"Yes, I can tell you exactly what each color of clothing you all are wearing and what colors are surrounding us. I can tell you what colors are blending to form new colors in the paintings that decorate the halls of the academic buildings or the flowers that line all of our dorm buildings."
The others look at me, not saying anything, or moving. A thousand thoughts are running through my head. They must think that I am going insane.
Lacey finally moves.
She walks away and I can feel myself shatter slightly. Lacey had always been there for me and now she is walking away. But she stops at the front of the biggest dorm building. She looks back at me and points up. There is a banner stretching across the archway of the front door.
"What are the colors." She demands
"The letters are a bright red, almost leaning to orange. The background is a pale yellow color."
"The letters are red," Clarabell speaks up not looking at me.
"Why would I lie about this. I have nothing to gain by lying." I looked at each of them.
Lacey walks back over and steps in front of me. She reaches and lightly grasps my hand. She looks up at me and smiles.
"I believe you. Madi is the All Seer and it's been said that she can teach us. It makes sense that it was you to gain the sights." She pulled me into a hug and I felt my eyes sting slightly from the building tears.
"Thank you." I whimper out and feel the tears escape and drip down my face.
Lacey gently rubs my back and I feel the others gather around and give me hugs or at least place their hands on me in reassurance. We all stood silently and I finally pulled away. I let out a deep sigh and look up at them.
"Come on, let's go and relax for a little bit," I say and they all nod before we begin walking to my dorm.
~~~
It's late at night, I'm the last one awake, the others had fallen asleep a while ago. I've changed over the show we had been watching to something that I've been meaning to watch for a while. So, here I am. In the late hours of the night, practically morning at this point; I hear someone's pad go off. I check mine and see that it isn't mine. I look around and see a light-up pad. It's in Clarabell's hand. She's been messaging someone all night.
It's continuing to go off.
"Whoever she's been talking too must really be wanting to talk to her." She's close by so I gently nudge her with my foot. She groans and turns in closer to Lacey, nuzzling into Lacey's stomach. I smile and nudge her again.
