I was running on the meadow by a lake, the wind felt good as it made my hair flutter. This place though, it felt quite familiar, suddenly I heard something and the grass started to move. It was headed towards me! "Who's there?! Mom? Dad?" Why did I call for them? It was no use, they were gone, just like the rest of my family. "Julia!?" The landscape changed, the water became pitch black and the meadow was dying. A creature began to emerge from the ground. It looked quite grotesque with a crooked face and giant body of stone. It grabbed my throat and lifted me off of my feet, my throat was burning, I tried to scream but I couldn't. As I started to black out I could hear it's voice whisper: "The answers will be where you won't venture..."
The moment I woke I shot up from the bed and looked around, but I was alone ... as usual. My clock showed 05:00, but no matter how hard I tried I couldn't fall asleep again. School didn't start before 08:00. I was usually a bit late to my classes, but today I had the time to wash my hear, eat breakfast and wash my clothes.
"Wow Julie, you're on time!" I gave Nicholas, my friend, an annoyed look, most people thought of me as a weird and rude person (which probably was the reason I didn't have many friends), but Nick didn't care, he usually gave me his trademark mischievous look. "How'd you manage to get up so early? Tell me the secret!" I gave him quite the dismissive shrug. "Ugh, there is no secret! I just had a stupid nightmare!" He looked surprised and almost snorted. "YOU had a nightmare?! I had always seemed cold and distant, but I didn't care if I was the weirdo at our school.
When I thought back, my first day of school wasn't too bad, but if someone were to judge me from 1 to 10 I'd probably receive a solid 3. The reason you may ask? The popular snotty girls invited me to their table, but I didn't like their attitude and declined which angered their leader, Frida. She started to follow me and say foul words. Usually, I wasn't bothered, but I lost my temper when she said I deserved to be alone ... and punched her right in the face. After my fist connected with her face she started to bawl uncontrollably (but I suppose most would if they broke their nose, right?) and just like that a strong hatred between us had bloomed, and yes, I did get a warning from the principal.
"How's your nose doing?" I smirked as I looked over at Frida and her group's table. It had been a while since school started, but she was still wearing bandages. They gave me the dirtiest look they could muster, but I didn't care. "Uh, Julie, we should leave them alone, we don't need more enemies, right? And ... you know your, uh, amulet's glowing!" The amulet was the only thing I had left from my family. "Huh?" He was right, the dark blue stone gave off a weak glow. It was quite weird... It had never done this before ... My train of thoughts were cut short though because the wall suddenly exploded in a cloud of dust and other materials.
As promised I have begun to translate my first book, and I hope I've done a good job. It feels quite nostalgic since I wrote this story when I was in 10th grade (so my language was a tad more childish). I want this to be good, so feel free to leave some feedback in the comment sections. Thank you for reading this book if you've already read my Norwegian version, if not I hope you find the first chapter interesting and read more of my works in the future <3
