"What the ...!" Nick started to panic as a giant silhouette became visible. "Run!" He yelled at me, but it felt as if someone held me back. "Why are you hesitating?" The dustcloud was disappearing now. "Julie! Do you have a deathwish!? Run!" I didn't answer him, he could keep his thoughts to himself, it wasn't like I cared. Although, when I saw what the silhouette had been concealing I regretted not running while I had the chance. It was the monster from my dream, but the one in front of me was definitely 100% real. Anyway, lame me decided to call it Stoneface. Why did I prioritize giving it a name? I don't know, just a part of my charm I guess. "Okay, we can run now!" I turned around and sprinted faster than I thought was possible, as we ran up the stairs I realized we were running towards the swimming pool. "Uh ... Nick, why are we running towards the swimming pool?" We were full of adrenalin, which probably prevented us from collapsing right now. "What!? I was following you!" He seemed quite stressed out. "W-well ... I was following you!" We both realized the mistake we had made. The swimming pool was positioned on the third floor and even if Stoneface couldn't swim (since, well, stones can't float) we would probably die regardless.
We ran in quickly and closed the door behind us, but it didn't hold him for very long. He barged through and splinters went sailing through the air, but Stoneface was so big that he couldn't get through right away. "Well, since we have some time ... any last words you wanna say before we die?" He looked at me with a weird expression. "What? No! I don't have anyone that close to me". He looked kinda hurt, but I didn't think much of it. "Forget it, you never understood jokes anyway ... but seriously, do you have any ideas that might save us?" I had one, but it was kinda stupid. "Jump into the pool?" We would be safe there, right? "Are you sane or what?" I shrugged, desperate times meant desperate thoughts. "Your choice". I jumped in and hoped Stoneface wouldn't follow. Just as I thought that he finally got through the destroyed doorframe. Behind me I could hear another splash, which probably was from Nick. Luckily for us, Stoneface didn't jump in, but he was circling the pool. I wasn't the strongest swimmer and I had two options (and none was favourable): I could stay in the pool but I would probably drown or I could try to get out when he was at the other end and pray that he didn't reach the exit first. We decided to swim towards the exit when he was at the other end and swim we did. We probably looked like someone who'd lost their minds due to the way we were swimming.
The good news was that we reached the exit first, the bad was that the stairs to the first floor had collapsed. "What do we do?" Nick was panicking and almost crying. "We jump ..." My eyes landed on the broken window. "Jump!? No way, it's too far down!" I dragged him along despite his protests. As I looked down I spotted a ledge. "If we manage to land on that we should be fine ..." I said it calmly. "Define what fine is, will ya?!" I took his warm hand and held it, my hands were cold as ice ... "On three ... 1 ... 2 ..." I was about to jump when Nick dragged me back. "W-wait! I'm not ... I'm not ready yet!" He was shivering and covered in sweat. I felt bad, but I had to do this, if not we would be crushed to death by Stoneface. I could hear him approach from behind, and I grabbed Nicks hand. The last thing I remembered was falling towards that ledge.
