The flashbacks hit my mind as painful waves. I was spectating from a third-person view together with Tash. My memory was ... from when I was a little baby, it felt ... a little awkward. I couldn't see my father, but the woman I dreamed of, the one with the strange hair, held me. She cradled me gently promising that I had a bright future. The n reality, or rather the vision, warped. Death manifested in front of my mother, I couldn't be older than 4 years or so. His voice was raspy, ethereal, and zapped all the warmth from the room, even the candles died. He tried to convince my mother to let me come with him, I needed to start my "training". Mother, however, was not happy and threw an artifact at him. It shattered and he screamed in agony as he disintegrated into black smoke.
We were in the same scenario as in that bizarre dream, the shape in the forest, that probably was Death, and ... my mother was there as well. But in comparison to my dream ... this vision didn't end when she grabbed me. "You must never follow him!" My mother had a firm voice, but I could see that she was trembling slightly. "But mom, if I cannot follow him, why does he keep on seeing us?" I asked it so innocently, I was too young to understand ... "Go to Natasha, I promise I will explain everything when you're old enough". I ... no, younger me, walked over to Tash, happily and oblivious. Engulfed by the innocence every child has. We seemed so normal, as if we had no worries. My mother's worry and the threat Death posed already forgotten as we played around in the forest. I wasn't sure if I could, but I stepped forward and tried to listen to what my mom said. "It was wrong of us to experiment with Death! Julie and everyone else is in danger because we tried the easiest solution to stop the demons. We should never have made these hybrids. My daughter, as well as the chief's ... the only thing we did was make them experiments! Hybrids that do not belong anywhere ..." She began crying and I felt ... empty? No ... angry? Maybe shocked? I couldn't tell anymore. I felt like the void consumed me, as if I fell into oblivion when a warm and familiar hand took my hand. Tash ... she was still here with me, watching my memories ... and she accepted me for who or rather what I was? If I could count as a person and not a monster.
The scenery changed again, I was ... maybe 15. My mother was preparing dinner when strangers knocked on our door. They spoke with low voices, and when I tried to move ... I couldn't. I was rooted until the younger me snuck closer, then I could finally hear what they said. "Take her far away, to a place of safety. Do not forget to seal away her memories and suppress her abilities. That is the only way I can keep her safe, she must never return".
