I sat up, the clock was precisely 5 in the morning, so I could safely leave my room. But I didn't, instead, I just sat on my bed to relax. My music was still playing, but I paid it no mind and I felt this tiredness clinging to my body. I didn't have the energy to get up and stop my music, so I sat there, pondering on what my dream meant. After the morning grogginess let go of me I realized. It could have been my life, free of worries and magic. We would have been normal humans, enjoying normal teen activities ... But the life I led was far from normal, and I felt this anger. It was unfair! Why did my life end up like this? Why couldn't it be someone else? Why me of all the people out there? I dreaded the day I had to confront Death or dad or whatever he was to be called. I didn't wanna think about it, in reality, I just wanted to disappear and disintegrate into nothing. I shook my head in disbelief, did I really have these thoughts? It would only procrastinate my thoughts, but I went back to sleep.

"Julie!" A gentle, warm hand shook me by my shoulder a little. "Mmmm ... 5 minutes more ..." I was tired and didn't wanna get up, so I snuggled even more with my duvet. "It's 12, you're gonna be late". I mumbled something more, and then I slept in again. Next thing I knew I was airborne. I was too tired to actually react with my powers but for a moment it felt like I was floating, then I hit the floor, hard. "Fucking hell, that hurt!" I rolled over and looked up at Julia. "You were supposed to get up 07.00". Her voice was authoritarian and I slowly got up. "Yes, sorry. Ouch ..." I dragged myself into the bathroom, to splash some water in my face.

When I went downstairs, Tash was waiting for me. She looked so ... mature and calm as she sipped her tea. "Ugh ... you got any for me?" I felt like a trainwreck and needed something to wake up and well ... to feel better. "Not really ... because Julia and the others already ate breakfast. They're waiting for us and in 1 hour we need to be at the edge of the forest". I groaned a little and mentally kicked myself for sleeping in. Since I didn't have a lot of time, I scarfed down my breakfast and strapped on the gear I had received on my journey. "Right, you look ready ... let's go". I nodded and began to walk out, looking back once, just to memorize how peaceful my life could have been. "There's just one thing I want to do before we meet the others". She pulled me in for a kiss, it was tender and sweet. I leaned in and our kiss felt as if it lasted forever, I wanted it to never end. This moment, nothing could make me forget it. "I just wanted to kiss you here, since you know ... the village ..." She trailed off and looked a little lost in thoughts. I gave her hand a squeeze and when our eyes met I smiled with encouragement.

Julia was talking with an intimidating man when we arrived, but when she spotted us she cut the conversation short and quickly came towards us. "I can't afford to waste time, so I'll get right to the point. You will be sent in with the last squad and Julie, you need to kill Death". I nodded, the responsibility I carried made me feel a bit uneasy. "I wish it wouldn't have come to this point ... but if we allow Death to walk freely his powers can even erase our planet". We gave each other a glance, understanding each other's emotions and saying goodbye in case we didn't make it. Julia began to give orders and slowly but surely our numbers diminished until only a few remained off the battlefield. I could hear the screams and roars coming from the forest ... and soon I had to enter the fray.
