Prologue

Everyone has regrets. I know I do, but sometimes in life you can’t always change that. That’s what happened to me. I made a choice and I regret it deeply. It still even haunts me. Literally.

Chapter 1 –

Today I’m excited because it’s my first day back at school and now I’m a senior. When I look in the mirror, I see not some just boring student, I see a senior who is ready to take on the world. I even made my hair wavy today for the occasion, which is something I never do. Downstairs mum has made some breakfast and she is rushing around the kitchen which means she is nervous about something.

“Mum, what’s up?” I ask as I take a slice of toast. She turns and looks at me for a moment and crosses the room and pulls me into a tight hug.

“Oh heavens, my baby is all grown up!” she cries. Great. My mom is welling up because I’m a senior.

“Mom it’s ok and could you let go ‘cuz I’m gonna be late.”

“Oh, yes of course.” She says as she releases me. She looks at me for a moment and then reaches for her purse.

“Here, take some money for lunch Ava.” I smile at her as I take the money.

Ava. That’s my name, and it sucks. I get so much jip because of it; I get called things like ‘Avery of birds’ It’s immature but what the hell. All the super natural freaks at school love it because they say it’s a Wiccan name whatever that means. I’ve heard that it’s to do with witches, but to be honest I don’t believe in that stuff anyway.

“See you later mom.” I call over my shoulder as I head for the door. Outside Lucy is waiting in her car, as I climb in she has an excited expression on her face.

“Oh my god Ava!” Lucy squeals.

“What? I have missed something?” I panic as I look my self over to check that I have got everything that I need on. I sigh a relief as my inspection is correct.

“No stupid. We are seniors! We are at the top of the chain girl. I can’t believe it. And this year will be prom!” Lucy squeals in delight as she day dreams of prom.

“Hello, earth to Lucy.” I say as I hit her arm gently. “Do you wanna be late for the first day or what?” Lucy frowns and checks her hair in the mirror and then starts the car.

Lucy. That’s my best friend in the whole wide world. I don’t know what I would do without her, we do everything together and best of all she is on the school committee so we know all the gossip before everyone else. Lucy is also one of the most gorgeous girls at school. All the boys fall at her heels and I can see why because she has silky long blond hair and blue eyes. And best of all she is always dressed in the fashion. Everybody wants to be her. Some girls even try to copy her look by wearing contacts and dying their hair. It’s creepy.

“Yeah ok then, grumpy pants.” Lucy moans as we pull away.

“I’m not grumpy Luc. I just don’t want to be late that’s all.” I reply smiling at her and reaching for a small package in my bag.

“I have something for you though, if that makes up for it.” I grin. Lucy looses her frown instantly. She loves presents and she is a sucker for surprises.

“What is it?” She asks excited.

“Ah, I can’t tell you that now as it is a surprise.” I tease. \She frowns hard as she pulls into the school parking lot.

“Oh come on Ava. I know you love me and besides, I have a gift for you too.” She giggles as she reaches into her bag and pulls out a small package like mine.
