Chapter 10 -
The drive was a shaky one. I couldn’t help but think what was going to come, and it felt as if I was going to face my death. Who was I kidding? It was Luke. I sat there in my car shaking, man I needed to get a grip! I got out and looked at the gorgeously built block of apartments, they looked expensive. I took a deep breath and walked over to the apartments and yelped as my phone vibrated in my pocket. I pulled it out and checked the caller ID. Kyle. There was no way he was going to be able to talk me out of this one! I rejected the call and carried on walking and buzzed Luke’s apartment number.
“Hello?” He asked and I froze like an idiot.
“Hello?” He repeated more demanding and I shook myself.
“Luke, it’s me Ava, I need to talk to you.” I held my breath waiting for an answer.
“Yeah sure, come on up.” He grunted and buzzed me in; I walked up the stairs slowly and knocked on his door. He opened the door and then studied me for a moment, his eyes lurking over my body. I shifted my weight uncomfortably and his eye shot to mine.
“What do you want?” I frowned.
“May I come in?” He moved out of my way and I walked through into his living room which I had to say was amazing! I turned to catch him staring at me. Man this dude had issues!
“Got something to look at?” I hissed.
“Yeah, you’re fit body.” He grinned the sly smile I hated and I shuddered.
“What o you want?” I could read the double meaning behind his words and I held my head high.
“I came to talk to you about Joanne.” He froze for a moment and then shrugged.
“What about her?”
“She is dead!” My voice broke.
“I know.” He shrugged. Again. He took a step towards me and I took one back.
“When was the last time you saw her?” He kept walking until I hit the wall. Crap! I had no escape. My heart was racing and I knew for sure I was dead. His big strong arms shot out in front of me and I yelped quietly which made him smile even more.
“Why would you want to know when I saw her last?” Then my anger flared! There was no way I was going to let this guy bully me! I reacted on impulse and slapped him hard around the face.
“Because she is dead Luke! I just wondered if you might have seen her before she died!” He raised his hand up as if he was going to hit me; I cringed against the wall in fear now that my anger had deserted me. I waited for the strike but nothing happened. I opened my eyes to see Luke standing there with his hand still raised. His eyes were full of shock.
“Did you honestly think I would hurt you?” He lowered his hand.
“Well you did try and kill me Luke.” I muttered. Anger flashed in his eyes. Now I was mince meat.
“Do you think that was me? Joanne wanted to kill you, not me! I told her no but she threatened to kill me too. Why did you think I threw her bracelet by the bottle? I had to do something.” The bracelet? Luke had done it. There was something in his eyes that I hadn’t seen before.
“You like me?” I blurted and my hands shot to my mouth, now I was in for it. Luke shoved me against the wall but said nothing, he just stared at me. I moaned in pain as my head hit the wall and before I could blink his lips were on mine, strong and warm. His mouth parted and his breath washed through me. I then kissed him back, his hands slid down my sides and my hands were in his hair. His tongue touched my lip trying to get in and I eventually let him in. His hands moved to my t-shirt and began to take it off. Kyle? Who was Kyle? Something screamed in the corner of my mind that he was important but I didn’t care. Luke made me feel alive! He pulled my shirt off and was kissing me again until my phone buzzed. I began to pull away to answer it.
