“Come on, you will be fine.” Lucy said rubbing my shoulder. We were in her carat her usual space in the parking lot. I wasn’t convinced though.
“How do I look?” I asked as I looked in the mirror, I had tried to cover up the bruises with make-up. It failed. You still could see a lot of the bruising and as for the cuts, well; I couldn’t hide those very well. At least the swelling had gone down and I didn’t look like a melon.
“You look fine.” Lucy smiled, smoothing out a bump in my hair, I shrugged and then frowned.
“You will be fine Ava! Trust me, it will be ok, I will protect you.” She said as we got out of the car, she met me round the front and gave me a hug.
“Come on, we got to go and meet Matt.” I smiled and Lucy lit up. Matt grinned as we came closer and he leaned up from the car and came and gave Lucy and me a hug.
“Hey Ava. It’s great to have you back.”
“Thanks.” I muttered. I moved back so Matt could put his arm around Lucy and peck her on the lips.
“Ready?” Matt asked us both, mainly looking at me.
“Yeah I am what about you Ava?” Lucy peered round and looked me in the eye.
“Ready as I will ever be.” I sighed. Matt ruffled my hair, and Lucy hugged me close. I looked round the school and sighed, today was going to be interesting.
“Here goes nothing.” I muttered as I walked quickly towards the school as the bell went.
All through the morning people stared at me and made sly comments. The morning just dragged on and on. And I couldn’t wait until break. When break finally came I hurried to my usual seat and sat down and huffed. Matt was the only one who there when I arrived.
“Hey! How’s it going?” I gave him a dirty look and he laughed.
“What’s so funny?” Lucy asked as she sat down running her fingers through Matt’s hair. Matt laughed harder.
“Ava’s face.” Matt replied taking a bite out of his bagel. Lucy smiled then turned to me.
“So, how was your day?”
“Crap.” I stated with no emotion. Lucy shook her head.
“Why, what’s happened?” She said getting defensive. I sighed. So Lucy.
“Nothing Luc. Calm down, people just keep talking and staring, it’s just annoying.” I sighed. Lucy frowned and Matt touched the crease in her forehead.
“Don’t frown Luc, you will get wrinkles.” Matt said still chuckling. Lucy didn’t laugh, she looked horrified and pulled out the compact mirror in her jeans and checked her face and relaxed when she found no wrinkles.
“Oh would you look at that, Avery of birds has survived. Shame.” I turned and saw Jo and Sophie, Jenna’s ‘best mates’.
Sophie and Jo. They followed Jenna everywhere; I mean they are like sheep to a sheepdog. They didn’t have a brain of their own and they are so dumb. They are so dumb that they thought that the word vulgar meant a type of pedicure. So lame. Everyone hated them. (Apart from the guys on the football team as they were willing to things they wanted, if you know what I mean.)
“Oh look, its tweedle dumb and tweedle dee.” Lucy said plainly.
“Thanks.” They gleamed as they had just received a compliment. We all rolled our eyes. So blond!
“That was not a compliment.” Lucy growled getting irritated. They made a face.
“You bitch!” They said in unison.
