Noah went through a list of songs he knew by heart. The only ones that would work were two Katy Perry songs and Read All About It. He was leaning towards Roar, mostly because he loved it more than the other two. He wondered if he can get sued by singing them.
Mentally Seven answered him with a solid no. Before bringing up a song that Maia wrote. Looking at it, Noah couldn't help but think of an opening theme song for a cartoon show. Seven showed him another one and it was way too personal for this event. A real everything or nothing kind of girl.
From the pile of presents, Seven had decided on a song that he knew his host knows by heart. Seven turned off the lights, then he moved the spotlights towards his host. A slow, peaceful piano started up as Noah adjusted the microphone. Seven for a one moment, felt the bitter fondness that had hit his host.
Immediately, Seven sent support through their bond, hoping that Noah won't linger on it. They closed their eyes and start to sing. Their voice was sweet and calming, almost hypnotic as it washed over the crowd.
The song was about a young girl growing up, trying to find her way while she hoped that it will lead to a happy end. It was called 'Taking A Leap', the phase doesn't show up, but it was the way the singer was supposed to sing it. Nervous, unsure but was more willing to keep going. Hopeful, ready to go on to the next chapter in her life. And when the music starts to change, they sing with everything.
But Seven had a feeling that his host still thinks they aren't ready, that they were still edging the cliff. Their wings nervously copying the movements of flight as they looked down. But Seven knows, he could feel it in their heartbeat, their soul. The want to soar through the sky, to burn brighter than the sun. To be a Phoenix.
(His host's soul was beautiful, a bit cracked, but who doesn't get hurt during Life? It will heal, it will glow bright once more. Seven was more than ready to fly with them, even if it was only one world. One lifetime. He was ready to fly for the first time, even if the sky starts to storm.)

There was something going on with his sister, Roderick looked at her on the stage. Or perhaps, he thought with guilt, this was the woman she was growing into. She was always quiet, a tiny wallflower. (Not so tiny anymore.) It was hard to bond with someone when there is a fifteen year gap.
As they went home, his eye caught the sight of something that disappeared before he could really look at it. He put his hand on his Melt gun, the bodyguards around him prepared for a fight. "Has there been sightings of any beasts?" He asked them.
All of them gave him a negative as they radioed in with the others to be on the look out. Roderick could only grit his teeth and leave the parking lot. They had to catch up with the rest of his family. If they were attacked, it will be better to be with them and have some backup.
When he got back home, only a few minutes after Theodore, the others were sitting in the smaller sitting room. They looked exhausted and ready for bed, shoes off and loose ties, practically melting into the furniture. He joined them, his fingers combing through his hair. "So, what have you decided on?" He looked over at Maia, whose head was tilted towards the ceiling.
She didn't move or blink for a couple moments before she slumped forward. Roderick watched her stand up, "I will be going to the exams next week."
Silence.
Everyone knew what exam she was talking about, it airs live every year. Possibly the only one that never needed to be named. Roderick thought for sure that she was aiming to be a singer. Not this. Their baby in a exam where you could easily die, a career that most people don't make it past the age of 40 with a high chance of PTSD and injuries that could cripple you for life.
Stephen stood up first (it's always him, he was the closest one to her (but how close is he really?)), a harsh frown on his face as his fists shook. "No. There's no way, you are becoming an adventurer."
Maia looked at him, Roderick shifted, gripping the armrest as she said nothing. Her face blank as her eyes met his. Her right hand pushed a strand of hair behind her ear, her lips thin. She nodded at their father and left the room, her head held high.
No argument, she just left. Roderick was cursing his father, his eyes burning a hole on the side of his head. Once again, he found himself resenting the way his father liked to leave his children to swim or sink. He stood up and left the room, ready to try and change her mind.
When he got to her room, his hand hovered over the knob, his ears picking up a voice that definitely didn't belong to his sister. A young male, definitely between the age of ten and thirteen. "... register... help you... it's important to get it done, so no legal problems pop up."
"Seven, I know," he could picture the way she would huff silently and roll her eyes. "We will go tomorrow, the Bonding Office should be open."
Roderick tensed up, his eyes widened as a quiet purring started up. Maia, she had bonded with a beast? A familiar, she-? How? When did this happen? They could talk, her familiar could talk out loud. That makes them easily a Level Four beast, who also sounded so young.
Roderick quickly walked off, so focused on his phone, he missed what she said next. "Should we leave without telling them? We can get her papers easily."

A/N: Seven uses they/them/their for Noah because Noah actually likes it more, but doesn't say anything about it after the first time they tried to correct someone. Noah using he/his/him mentally is more out of habit than anything.
And I have no idea where Seven got the whole Phoenix and flying thing from. But I liked it.
Hope your day is going well! Votes and comments are welcomed!
