Bella, my dad, and I are currently sat in a small restaurant called Corner Cafe.
"I still can't get over how grown-up you two are," the waitress said. "You grew up so gorgeous."
I smiled as she handed us our food.
"Hey, Bella, Blake," a man said. "You remember me?"
Bella and I both looked at our dad.
"I played Santa one year," the man said with a smile.
"Yeah, Waylon, they haven't had a Christmas here since they were four."
"I bet I made an impression though, didn't I?" Waylon asked.
"You always do," my dad said.
"Butt crack Santa?" The waitress said with a smile.
"Hey, kids love those little bottles, though," Waylon said.
"Let the kids eat their food." The waitress looked at us. "As soon as you're done, I'll bring you your favorite. Berry cobbler, remember? Your dad still has it; every Thursday."
I smiled.
"Thank you," Bella said.
I grabbed the ketchup for my fries and put some on my plate. I took a bite of my burger and let out a content sigh.
"Pretty good, huh?" My dad said with a small smile.
"Mhmm," I said as I chewed the delicious food.
***
"If spring training goes well, we could be moving to Florida," my mom said. My mom is the only one that can get me to say more than a few words. I was always told that I'm a Mama's boy.
"That's great," I said. "Have you told Bella?"
"Yeah," my mom said.
"I miss you mom," I said.
"Aw, baby, I miss you, too. But tell me more about your school. What are the kids like? Are there any cute boys?"
I get my face heat up. My family has always supported me and it makes me love them so much more.
"Well..."
I heard my mom gasp. "There is a boy. Tell me, what is he like?"
"He's tall, he's got black hair and these beautiful brown eyes," I explained.
"My sweet boy," my mom said. "He sounds so nice."
"He is," I said. "I have a class with him. He sat next to me in English and talked to me?"
"Well, did you talk to him?" My mom asked, curiously.
I've always found it hard to talk to people I don't know. Well, people in general. That's why I'm always quiet. I let out a sigh. "I tried, mom. I really did. I just couldn't get myself to do it."
"Aw, honey, that's ok." My mom comforted. "At least you tried. Maybe it'll happen next time."
I smiled. "Maybe."
"He didn't give you a weird look?" My mom asked.
Whenever people attempt to talk to me and I don't talk back, they give me weird looks before walking away, but Emmett didn't do that.
"No, he didn't," I said. "It seemed to draw him in more."
"That's amazing," my mom said. "Ok, I'm gonna let you go. You've probably got homework to do."
I smiled. "Ok. Talk to you later?"
"Definitely," my mom said. "I love you."
"I love you, too, mom."
I hung up and let out a sigh. I decided to just go to sleep now because I had already finished my homework.
***
I waited until it was time to head into the school. Bella and I come really early and just wait in the parking lot. Though I've come to notice, everyone seems to do that.
I have my earbuds in and, as expected, I'm listening to AC/DC's song Thunderstruck. If I'm being completely honest, I love 70's and 80's music; but I mostly listen to AC/DC.
As I listen to my music, I see a white Jeep drive into the parking lot. I see Emmett standing in the backseat, half of his body in the air and the other half, being just his legs, are in the vehicle.
He watches me as the car pulls up next to Rosalie's red convertible. I watch him gracefully jump out and walk next to Rosalie. If he's with Rosalie, why does he constantly look at me?
***
The next day was the same. Bella and I waiting for class in the parking lot, me watching Emmett, Emmett watching me. Emmett always sits next to me in English now. I still haven't built up the courage to talk to him, though. It's only been a few days, so I've got time.
***
Another day that doesn't change. Emmett and I watch each other, mostly during lunch. We tend to make a lot of eye contact during this time seeing as we don't sit together.
I've started talking a bit more and Bella and my dad have started to notice. It's not very much still, but it's definitely more than before. I think Emmett has something to do with it.
***
It's been just over a week since Bella and I moved to Forks. We got ready for school early as usual. Charlie went to change the tires before we left, so we won't have as much time to wait before school, but I'm fine with it.
Bella and I walked down the steps towards the truck when Bella slipped on a patch of ice. I caught her. As I said before, not the most coordinated person ever.
My dad ran towards us as Bella regained her balance. "You alright?"
"Yeah, I'm good. Ice doesn't really help the uncoordinated." Bella said with a smile.
"Yeah, that's why I, uh, got some new tires put in the truck. Old ones were getting pretty bald. Well, I'll probably be late for dinner. Gotta head down to Mason County. A security guard at the Gricken Mill was killed by some kind of animal."
My dad walked to his car.
"An animal?" Bella asked.
"You're not in Phoenix anymore, guys," my dad said. "Anyway, I figured I'd lend a hand."
"Be careful," I said.
He nodded. "Always am."
"And thanks for the tires," Bella added.
"Yep," my dad said before getting into his car.
Bella and I got into the truck. It's Bella's week to drive, so I sat in the driver's seat, putting my earbuds in and listening to AC/DC.
