"You ready, Leigh?" Davey asked.

"Yeah. Let's go." she replied.

Leigh Jacobs was David Jacobs' twin sister. They spent their days selling papers as newsies.

Being a girl Newsie was unheard of in New York. That's one of the reasons why the boys liked her so much.

Davey grabbed Leigh's arm and guided her through the streets. Leigh was partially blind in her left eye, so being guided through the streets was completely necessary.

Once they finally got to the lodging house, Davey bought both of their papers, and they went their separate ways.

I watched as Leigh walked through the gates with Davey.

Ever since the first time I saw her, I knew I liked her. And now, I liked her more than a friend.

The only problem, for the first time ever, I'm nervous about asking her to be my girl.

Maybe it's because Davey's my best friend. But, who knows.

"Hey, Leigh! Wanna sell wit' me today?" I ask her.

"Sure, Jack! Long as we don't tag along with Race; he always bets all his money away, then asks to "borrow" mine." she said with a laugh.

As we were walking to my selling spot, I decided that I had to tell her that I like her as more than a friend.

Before I did, I looked over at her. Her beautiful light brown hair that matches my own was shining in the sunlight; her blue eyes taking the scene around her.

I was reminded of just how beautiful she is.

I just hope that I don't ruin our friendship by doing this...

I took a small breath and began to speak.

"Hey, uh, Leigh. I, uh... I wanna tell ya somethin'..."

"Anything, Jack! What's on your mind?"

"Well... I've wanted to say this for a while now..."

I paused not knowing how I was going to get through this.

"Jack, are you okay? I've never seen you like this." she asked, worry evident in her voice.

"Yeah- yeah I'm fine. Well, ya see... IreallylikeyamorethanafriendandIwantyatabemygoi" I say all in one breath.

"Whoa, slow down, Jack! English please!" She laughed.

Her laugh somehow calmed me a bit and I began to speak again.

"Kayleigh, I like ya more than a friend. Would ya be my goil? I really like ya, Leigh!" I tried again.

She stared at me for a few moments, looking shocked.

"Yes! Ya shoulda asked me sooner, Jack!" She said, smiling like a maniac.

I grinned stupidly, but I couldn't help myself.

I pulled her closer to me and kissed her. She kissed back without hesitation.

"Yeah, Jack! Finally gots yaself a goil!" I heard Mush behind us.

We broke the kiss so that we could breathe again, and turned to face Mush, who was still whistling and clapping.

I was surprised to see Davey standing next to Mush, looking shocked.

Apparently Leigh saw him too, because she started to blush.

But I didn't care, from then on, she was my girl.

And with that, I kissed her again.
