The date was February 16th and the time had sadly come for us to leave the safety of Lothlórien. We had been there for a month and we had become fairly attached. My stitches on my leg had been removed two weeks ago and by this time my leg was fully healed on the outside. I just had a narrow scar going across my thigh, which I didn't really mind as it was hard to see.
We were in a line and the Galadrim were giving us parting gifts. We were dressed in elvish cloaks with Lórien leaf brooches by the handmaidens of Lady Galadriel, "May these cloaks shield you from unfriendly eyes," said Lord Celeborn.
"My gift for you, Legolas, is a bow of the Galadhrim. Worthy of the skill of our woodland kin." Said Galadriel and smiled as Legolas lifted the elegant bow and tested its strength. She then stopped at me.
"My gift for you Yavanna is another bow of the Galadrim," she said handing me the bow. It was similar to Legolas bow, but ever so slightly different. It was incredible, so detailed and elegant. I gave her a smile of gratitude, and she smiled back before walking on to Merry and Pippin. We were going to be journeying by boat, and had packed up everything we would need. We had packages of Lambas bread and some other food supplies. I had my bag pack ready, still with 2 extra sets of clothes, a towel, a sharpening stone, a comb, my blankets and some toiletries that the Galadrim had kindly given me. I had tried to return the dress Estel gave me, but she told me to keep it and we had our last goodbyes. Estel had revealed some of their wedding plans to me; she was so excited and overcome with euphoria and pre-wedding bliss. I was going to miss her sister-like companionship immensely.
The Fellowship were in three modest Eleven boats. Elves were quietly
watching us depart, including Haldir and I smiled. I was so pleased for him and Estel.Merry and Pippin were riding expressionless in their boat with Boromir paddling. Frodo and Sam shared the expressions of Merry and Pippin while traveling with Aragorn. No one really felt like talking for it had all dawned on us that we were truly going to Mordor now. As our boats drifted past, Galadriel was stood alone in a breathtaking white dress and cloak, watching us from the banks of the river.
Gimli was riding at the head of our boat and I was in the middle, Legolas was at the back paddling.
"I have taken my worst wound at this parting having looked my last upon that which is fairest. Henceforth I will call nothing fair unless it be her gift to me." Gimli said sadly.
"What was her gift?" Legolas questioned Gimli.
"I asked her for one hair from her golden head. She gave me three." Gimli said, and as he did I sensed him to be in deep thought. I turned and looked at Legolas and we both smiled at each other knowingly. For a few minutes, small elf-lings chased us along the river until they had finally gone too far and stopped. I smiled sadly as I saw them slowly begin the head back the way they came. I was going to miss this place, it reminded me so much of Rivendell, my home.
The boats passed into the greater part of River Anduin. The river was much wider and deeper now and we were leaving Lothlórien for behind. The the Elven boats carried the us steadily southward. Viridescent trees littered the coast line of the river.
A flock of birds circled high above, black silhouettes against the pale grey sky, the sun pallid behind the thick misty clouds. I could see Aragorn watch the birds with concern, they had clearly been startled...(AN) Sorry that this chapter is very short, the next will be longer I promise. I had to have a chapter just on leaving Lothlórien tho, before the Uruk-hai come.
