Derek was waiting for me in my jeep after school. As I hopped into the driver's seat, he smirked at me. "Did you have fun?"
I shot him a look, like, "Really? You're asking that?"
"It's school, Der. It's not meant to be fun." I replied.
"It was a fair question!" Derek defended himself, the corners of his lips tugging up towards his cheeks.
"Well, how have the past two hours been for you?" I asked.
"I missed you. I'm worried about Kira, after what happened with Scott. All in all, not exactly the most pleasurable two hours." Derek looked at me with soft eyes, and I couldn't deal with all the emotions swirling around inside me. He really meant it when he said that, that is so sweet and nothing like the grumpy, scary sourwolf I have come to know and love.
Acting on instinct, I grabbed his hand, and smiled. "Come on, let's go home."
Derek nodded, and I put the jeep into drive.

As I pulled up next to Dad's car, I noticed Scott lurking in my garage. I motioned for him to come over. Derek looked furiously at Scott. "What is he doing here?"
I lay my hand on his chest to feel his heartbeat. He was really close to wolfing out. "Derek, calm down. Since he owes me, and everyone, especially Kira, he's doing me a favor and helping me get you in, through the front door, without Dad seeing." I said, and I waited until his heartbeat slowed down to a more reasonable pace before turning back to Scott.
"Now, you and I are going in with the ruse of me retrieving your textbook from my room to give to you. You will distract him while Derek sneaks upstairs with me. I will give you your textbook, which you did actually leave here, and then we will go our merry ways. Capische?"
"Why can't I just go through your window?" Derek raised an eyebrow at me.
"Because I'd like to ascertain that you can actually use my front door." I said, although if I'm being completely honest with myself, I also want to give Scott a chance to redeem himself. He is my brother, after all.
I searched Scott's puppy-dog eyes, and then, seeing tired resignation mixed with eagerness to help, I pulled Derek and Scott to my front door.
As the front door slammed shut, I pushed Derek in the direction of the stairs. He disappeared around the bannister just as Dad came in from the kitchen to greet me. He nodded to Scott.
"Hey, Scott. What are you boys doing?" I answered before Scott could. "He left his textbook here. I'm just giving it back to him."
Dad nodded, and I hurried upstairs as I heard Scott say, "So, I heard you were getting a K-9 unit in lieu of everything that's happened."
I smiled at Derek, who was sitting on my bed, and grabbed the textbook on my desk. "I will be right back." I promised, and bounded back down the stairs.
"Obviously, I can't say that I caught a killer using the werewolf pack of the town, so I need legitimate ways to find things." I caught the end of Dad's monologue as I handed Scott his book.
"Alright, here's your book." I stated. Dad glanced at me. "Why doesn't he stay? You boys can play video games or something." he suggested.
I shake my head. "Uh, he's got somewhere else to be. Right, Scott?"
Scott looked anxiously around, and then said, "Appointment. Sorry, sir." he fibbed.
Dad nodded. "Well then, off you go." Scott ducked out, looking relieved, and then it was just Dad and I.
I glanced toward the stairs. "Well, if you don't mind. I'm up to the gills in homework." Dad nodded his assent and I rushed back up to my bedroom.
Derek looked up at me and I thought, 'Mother of all things holy!' He was laying on his back, shirtless. And damn. Those abs.
I clambered on top of him and started to kiss him. With a groan, he rolled us over so that he on top of me, and ducked down to sniff my neck.
And then. He bit me. Lightly, but still!
As if he could smell my reaction (and he probably could,) he backed away.
And then he shifted into his wild form and leaped out the window.
And now I'm shaking so hard, I can hardly type. I thought he loved me. Why would he try to turn me without my consent?
