A/N Here's a good song, hope you find the appropriate time to play it during this chapter. Also, I'm going to wrap this story up soon. You'll see why at the end of this chapter. Ultra, over and out.
It's been a few days and the arrow still hasn't chosen a target. We've even gotten back to base and it hasn't found anyone to target. I put the arrow on my dresser and almost forgot about it. Mira and I kept going on business as usual. One day, I noticed the arrow move a bit. I wrote it down on a notepad and started keeping track of the days. Day 1: Moved exactly 0.24 centimeters right from origin spot. Mira catches me one day writing down the measurement and I tell her what I'm doing. "I'm keeping track of the arrow's movement. It seems that it may go and choose its target soon, based on its movement. Its last movement was 3 inches right." I explain. She understands and gets into bed. I'm kinda tired as well, so I lie next to her and fall asleep.
I wake up and hear there's a mission soon, and all able operators are to respond. Mira seems unable, as we had a late night last night. I've adapted and can operate on very little sleep. I quickly measure the arrow's movement and write it down, 4 inches left, and put my woodland camo uniform on, rank insignia, and head to Harry's office. Once I arrive, I see Tachanka, Glaz, Fuze, Kapkan, and Finka. I greet them all and we listen up. "Alright, seems to be you six. Well, that's enough. I need you all to go to a Mask base in Germany and take them out. Seem to be one of the higher ranking Masks. Try to take him alive. You ready?" He says. "They'll be Thunderstruck," I say. The others give some sort of quip and we leave. We get on the chopper and chat. Ace tells me he saw Mira wake up. "Nice. Send this letter down..." I start to say as she opens the window. "Now!" I say and Ace throws it. It perfectly flys through the window. "Yes!" I say and high-five Ace. The others chuckle and we all rest up.
Once we're all ready and awake, we jump off of the chopper. We engage our parachutes and land perfectly. I see a sniper in a tower, and Ace helps me land a shot square on his head. "1 EKIA." I say. Tachanka gives me a high-five. I detach my scope from my AR and put on a special Red Dot that can switch from 1.5X zoom to 3X zoom. I mostly use the 1.5 because I have extremely good eyesight. We move into the building. Tachanka, Finka and I go through the back, while Glaz, Kapkan, and Fuze go through the front. I quickly take out 2 masks while we breach. Finka and Tachanka take out the rest in the room. We push forward and take out any masks we see. We meet up with the other three and go upstairs. Glaz breaks off and goes outside to try and spot the target. Us other five keep on going. "I have eyes on, top floor, wearing a brown overcoat, black mask with red stripes. Engage?" Glaz asks. "Not yet. We'll sync-shot this one. How many hostiles?" I ask. "Six. Good call, Ultra." Glaz says. We all get into position for a sync-shot. "On my mark," Tachanka says. "Ready, mark." He says. We all fire at the moment he says mark. Glaz shoots the VIP with a tranq dart. They all fall to the floor. "Nice job, everyone. Let's go secure the package." I say. I go up to the VIP's room and pick up his body. I accidentally activate a trap. "Building set to explode, 2 minutes from now." An automated voice says. "EVERYONE OUT! NOW!" I yell through the comms. All I hear as a response is static and heavy footsteps. I still have the VIP, but he wakes up in my grasp. "Fool! I was never affected by that dart!" He says. He grabs a knife from me. I throw him off of me and knock the knife out of his hand. We fight. He manages to knock me down and take my pistol. "Well, well, well. Looks like it's the end for you. Either way, if you escape or stay here." He says and goes on and on. I lose interest in what he's saying. I'm just thinking about how sad Mira would be if I did die. She'd have to do everything herself. That wouldn't be what my ancestor, Jonathan Joestar, would want. I feel tears well up inside me again. "Oh, gonna cry?" The mask asks. "Not today," I say. Something caught my attention at that moment that reinstilled a sense of confidence in me.
5 MINUTES PRIOR, MIRA POV
I'm sitting here looking at Jason's note. "Had to go on a mission, don't do any work too strenuous. I love you, can't wait to get back." It reads. I look out the window and see that they still haven't returned. I sigh and sit back down and look at the arrow. I pick it up and examine it. It starts to act funny. All of a sudden, it starts glowing and hovering. I let go of it and it flies off and I have no clue where.
PRESENT TIME, ULTRA POV
I push the guy to the side and stand near a window. The guy takes a shot at me. I groan in pain. He thinks he shot and killed me. I look up and he sees an arm holding the bullet. "This is... Requiem." I say as Ace emerges as a new being. "Meet Ace of Spades' Requiem form, known as Shepherd of Fire!" I say. Shepherd emerges and flings a flaming bullet back at the mask. It stuns him and knocks him out. "I see that we needed to take him live, so I shot only hard enough to stun," Shepherd says. "Wait, you can talk?" I ask. "Yes, and we don't have much time. We need to leave." He says and throws me out a window. He then catches me and places me carefully down on the floor. We then run from the building full sprint. The building explodes and Shepherd and I are fine, as well as the VIP. Shepherd disappears back into Ace. "Ace, you know what happened?" I ask him. He shakes his head. "So it seems to be an ability or last resort kind of thing. Alright then." I say. Ace takes the arrow out of my back. "Forgot that was there, thanks Ace," I say. We start to move through the forest. "Jason to Base, Jason to base. Come in, Base." I say into my radio. All I get is static back. I change the channel and try to radio Richtofen. "Doctor, you there?" I ask. "Ja, what do you need, Jason?" Richtofen responds. "I'm stuck in a forest in Germany, and I need your help to get me back to England. Think you can?" I ask him. "Maybe if you come by my house we can devise a plan." He says. "That'll do. Address?" I ask him he gives me his address and I write it down. "Alright, see you in a few, Edward. Thanks." I say. "Anytime." He says. We cut the channel and I change back to Harry's. Every few hours I try to radio Base again. None of the times I try work. I manage to make it out of the forest and into a city. It's been a while ever since I was in a German city. I start walking around the city looking for a taxi of some sort. I manage to get one and I tell him Richtofen's house. He nods and takes me there. It was an hour ride long. I pay the fee and give the driver a nice tip. I walk up to Richtofen's door and knock on it. I hear something muffled. It sounds like the word "Coming!" I keep extra caution just in case. The door starts to open and Richtofen steps out. "Hello, Jason. How are you?" He asks. "I'm alright, Doc. Just a little shaken up. Also, I have an extra guest. Mind if he comes in?" I ask. "Not at all." He responds. "Thank you," I say. Ace appears and drops the VIP. He's still tied up like we had him. "Why is he tied up?" Richtofen asks. "He's a terrorist leader. I'm supposed to be taking him back to Hereford, but I ended up getting stuck here. What's kinda cool is that I get to show up at mt own funeral." I say. Richtofen nods and gets me some food. He knew I was starving. He also gives the Mask some food. I allow it because I'm going to be almost beating him to death later. I manage to get a signal to Base and Harry tells me he's sending a chopper to get me. "Don't tell anyone I'm alive just yet. Actually, tell them a new recruit will be coming in soon." I tell him. He says sure and cuts the channel. "Well, thanks for having me, Edward. I'll be leaving soon, so I just wanted to thank you." I tell him. "Of course. Anytime you or a teammate are in trouble here, tell them to stop by Dr. Richtofen's." He says. We chat and catch up on things while the chopper gets here. Once it does, I wave goodbye to Richtofen and take the VIP with me. It's a little flight, only about an hour or so. I decide to rest up a bit.
Once I wake up, we're ten minutes away from base. I stretch and get ready to go. Ace gives me a thumbs up and disappears. Once the chopper lands, I hear Harry. "...And our latest recruit, Ultra!" He says as I step off of the chopper. "And that Mask leader!" I say as I throw him on the ground. Mira immediately rushes over to me and gives me a bombardment of hugs, kisses, and punches. "WHY DID YOU LET ME THINK YOU WERE DEAD?" "OH MY GOD!" and "I love you." And such were all things she said to me. "Hey, take it easy. You aren't supposed to be doing anything too stressful, remember?" I say and she seems to relax. "You're right. We are expecting a baby after all." She says. "YOU WHAT?" Everyone else yells.
