I put the device on my head trying to brace myself for the aftermath of everyone's reactions, I knew rejection and separation was inevitable, I suppose I should be happy that I managed to spend this much time with them, my space family. Then through the silence..Flashing red alarms and the siren crashed through the castle. 'thank god I'm saved!'
"Quickly paladins get to your lions now!" Allura commanded.
We all raced out of the training room to our hangers, I climbed into blue. I could feel her consciousness link with mine and send me waves of reassurance and affection. She was honestly the only thing keeping me together out in space, she was my big blue mother lion.
I launched into space, Keith and Shiro were already out fighting.
Shiro's screen popped up. "Hurry up Lance and get in the fight! We need backup."
"Yes sir." I quickly reply and dive straight into the midst of the fighting. I need to please the head Alpha and show everyone my worth.
It's been about a month since our last big battle with the Galra and I wanted to show everyone how much I have improved. I had been spending nights with Blue to strengthen our bond, using the simulator and training hard to become useful. To be a good Beta.
I managed to take out 12 fighters within 30 seconds forcing my way further into the enemies formation.
"Lance! Stop showing off and get back with the group this is no time to showboat!" Keith's irritated voice cut through my concentration. I messed up again.
"Sorry Alpha."
This reply had caught the paladins by surprise, never once had Lance responded or replaced their name with their secondary gender, it wasn't uncommon back on earth mainly by Omega's but it was from their resident Beta Blue Paladin.
Lance made his way quickly back to the pack where they formed Voltron and defeated the Galra fleet promptly returning back to the castle for debriefing.

I was dreading coming out of Blue and facing everyone, not only had I fallen out of formation I had let part of my Omega instincts come through by calling Keith 'Alpha'. I've trained myself to not speak like a weak Omega and be submissive by calling people by their second gender but the look and sound from Keith of annoyance and disappointment thinking I was showing off cut into me deeply, something my Omega couldn't ignore. Maybe I was trying to show off? Show that I wasn't useless? Nothing I do is right, I require punishment.
I begin to brace myself emotionally for the scolding that was about to come. I made my way into the control room, I was the last one there 'another cut to add for later' I mentally note to myself. Everyone turned to me as I came in but then turned back to Shiro to continue the debrief. Had they started without me?
I moved closer to the group but stayed on the outskirts.
"That's all for now everyone, good job today Keith and nice team work Pidge and Hunk. Right, now go and get some rest we meet for dinner in a couple of hours."
Not one word sparred for me as everyone dispersed. Pidge & Hunk shot me sorrowful looks. I stayed in the control for a while in silence, something I had grown accustomed to sadly, no one ever checked up on me, asked if I was ok, they all had each other. The Alteans Allura & Coran, the engineers Pidge & Hunk, then the brothers Shiro & Keith and then there's me, 'lonely Lance', never belonging anywhere. I felt a tear fall down my face.
"Lance?"
