I slid on some athletic leggings and my slip-on Vans along with a sports bra and a fitted crop top. I jogged out to the lawn to see a picnic blanket and basket sitting beautifully on the bright green grass. I immediately ran to the basket, knowing it was Jake's plan. The bright blue eyes met with mine across the field as he turned around. I sprinted into his arms as he wrapped them tightly around my waist.

The sun was setting now and the horizon looked breathtaking. We sat on the picnic blanket and munched on sandwiches and red wine which was delicious. We watched the sunset as we spoke more about each other. "I'm sorry I froze up the other day about my family. Jon and I have just been through so much. It's really difficult to talk about it all." He nodded understandingly as he traced circles on my exposed stomach.

"No, I am so sorry for asking. I didn't even think about it too much. I thought you guys were transfers. I found out after that the situation was more elaborate. You don't owe me anything." He said sweetly, flashing me one of his million-dollar smiles.

I shook my head, smiling at the sweet boy who was beginning to grow on me. "I want to tell you." He nodded and sat up, giving me all of his attention.

So I told him. I told him about the rogue attacks and the screaming, I told him about the trauma and the abuse from our aunt, and us constantly being on the run. He listened closely and squeezed my hand to comfort me as I smiled. It was the first time in a long time that I talked about what happened and it felt good to let it all out. I smiled as the memories of my parents now grew into a bittersweet thankfulness for all they did for me.

I smiled at the boy who did all this for me. Who got me out of the house when I needed it most. Jake reached into the basket and pulled out a cupcake as he lit the candle. "Happy early birthday beautiful". He spoke gently, his cheeks turning red. My eyes watered as Jake sang an off-tune version of 'happy birthday'.

I bit my lip as I blew out the candle. Jake then pushed the cupcake into my face and we laughed eagerly. Our laughter died down slowly as we looked at each other. I swallowed the lump that I didn't know was there. I glanced at his plump lips and bit mine as he mimicked my actions. I leaned in to meet his lips until suddenly, Jake screamed. I opened my eyes to see Jake on his back with the Alpha throwing punches. I screamed irritably as I scrambled to my feet and glanced around furiously.

Jon was not too far behind Ashton whose wolf is now ripping through his clothes by the second. There was now an audience forming around along with some other soldiers in border control vests. Embarrassment and fear overwhelmed me as I screamed at the Alpha to get off the beautiful boy who I was seconds from kissing. What a cock block. Jon finally yanked he boys apart, screaming a final, "It's not worth it!"

Jon held the Alpha back as he attempted to get back to his beta. Jake scrambled to his feet and growled, holding his hand to his bloody cheek, "What is your problem, asshole?!" I stalked towards Jake to hug him as I heard words that made me freeze. Words that made my entire body tense up. Words that would surely change my life forever.

I glanced behind me to see Alpha Ashton wiping blood off his lip, no longer struggling to get to Jake. He stood big and cockily now as Jon looked between me and the large boy with begging eyes, seemingly hoping that the Alpha would just shut his mouth.

"She's my fucking mate." He spat, looking me in the eyes.
