I woke up to deep voices screaming as I instinctively pushed my back as far as possible into the small hole I had become familiar with over a short amount of time. I held my breath and froze as I watched large boots stomp past my hiding spot. I bit my lip as I watched at least 20 people walk past. Suddenly, my foot slipped on its location on a root, causing a noise to be made. "Wait! I heard something!" A deep voice called out, stopping near me.I went into defense mode and squeezed my eyes tightly, begging Amythest to come out now, when I need her most. Come out Amy, please, please Amy, save me. A man's voice became far too close as he called out to the others, "There's someone in here!" I opened my eyes to find myself being underwhelmingly human. I kicked and screamed and dug my nails into the tree's bark as the men dragged me out by my ankles.
"It's the Luna! We found her! Come now, she may be hurt!" I suddenly realized what was going on as I saw the same guards from border control the night before. Not long after I stopped resisting, my brother and Alpha Ashton pushed through the crowds and I sighed, rising to my feet slowly, wobbling. Jon grabbed my arm, supporting me as I stood. "Happy birthday Aurora. I love you." My brother said to me, hugging me tightly. He mumbled an apology as he wrapped his arms around me. I was hesitant, but I hugged my brother anyway because I love him. Even when he betrays me.
"Wait, Birthday?" I asked pulling away from him. "You've been missing for two days, Aurora. Everyone was worried sick." I turned my head to look at him, bags sunken in his eyes, strong muscles in a black t-shirt, dark hair clinging to his forehead, 6'6, emerald eyes in all his beauty. My mate. I suddenly felt a rush of emotions as I stared into his eyes, saying nothing. The guards who surrounded us moved away a considerable distance, seemingly understanding the situation at hand.
"No happy birthday for your mate?" I asked, walking towards the large man slowly. He watched me like I was a gazelle in the Savannah and he was a lion who hadn't eaten in days. But this is my game and he is my prey. I opened my arms slowly and stared into his glowing eyes that I finally had the confidence to stand against. "Come," I said, confidently, feeling like he and I were the only two people on earth. He moved quickly towards me as I stood my ground, hugging me in a tight and warm embrace as he lifted me off the ground. I wrapped my arms around his strong shoulders as I allowed myself to enjoy the hug of a lifetime.
It was as if he was crafted to hug me. A warmth and comfort immediately washed over me as I tucked my face into his neck. My body fitting perfectly against his, like a missing puzzle piece. I finally understood.
