"Ugh" you mumbled rolling out of bed. Having to wake up at 5am to get to school was not the move. You had to catch a taxi since in downtown New York the busses usually got caught in traffic for hours. The busses ran at 3:30 and you were not about to wake up that early.
New York was an amazing place to grow up, just a bit scary at times. You'd been jumped only once, and almost kidnapped by creepy taxi drivers twice that you can remember. As a little kid, even in kindergarten your mom would walk you to the sidewalk, pay for your taxi and send you on your way to school. It wasn't safe in any way, and as you grew you only then noticed the complete irresponsible effort your mother had put into raising you.
You can't complain though, at least she was raising you. That you knew of you had six half siblings, you grew up an only child though because mom never stuck around long enough for them to take their first steps. Yet for some reason, she wanted you.
It was nice that she cared about you, but you always wondered what happened to your other siblings. You think that your mom did truly care for all of them and she only kept you and raised you because she knew no one else could.
Your dad had died in the military after being drafted 6 months after your birth. Mom had already up and left you and your dad alone since you were 3 months. After she heard about your dad being drafted she was forced by the court of Manhattan to come back and raise you.
Your dad payed child support from the military to keep you both alive. Sadly, Dad had died in active duty over seas. You never got a chance to know your father the way you wished you had, but everything happens for a reason.
Dad apparently had a huge life insurance policy over 6 million dollars. Since your mom never married him she wasn't granted any of the money.
You were your fathers only living child so the money all went to you. Accept you were a 1 year old when he had died. The court decided that they would start giving you the money in small increments from the time you were 10, till 18 at 18 they would give you all the money. Since you were then considered an adult.
You used your money wisely. Your mom hadn't taught you much other than street smarts and common sense. But you used that common sense to not blow your money on anything and everything.
Around the time you turned 5 your mother had agreed to let you meet one of your siblings. 'Her favorite' as she called him. His name was Griffin Johnson. He lived in Paris Illinois, which was pretty far away from New York. Griffin was three years older than you. So when you met him he was 8.
His dad had found a new wife and she had three kids of her own. Griffins step siblings were, at the time 10, 12, and 19. Griffin was loved by his new family and he always believed his step mom to be his mom. Until your mother wanted back into his life.
She claimed that he was her favorite child, which even at five hurt you a lot. She wanted you to meet him. She even wanted to help raise him.
I thought it was a bit odd that mom randomly wanted back into one of her many, many, children's life. Mom took you to Illinois many times You always felt welcome in Griffin's home and it was great to finally have a family that loved you. Griffin's step sister, who was 10, Kasey slowly became your best friend. Over time you got very close with Griffin's father, mother, siblings and Griffin himself.
