The apprentices have been training here for about a week now. The constant stress and worry of the Lycans was really starting to show on everyone. There has been no word of a full attack but there have been reports of small bands of Lycans that are killing livestock and a few farming families in the outermost parts of the city.

Sure it was an awful thing to have happen but they should have been more prepared if they didn't expect any casualties. Since then, all of the people living outside of the stone city walls were brought in for their own protection. Most were living in the churches while some stayed with friends or family.

Apparently we are in a safe region here. Besides the fact that the best known Angel Hunter, Keegan Hunter, lived here with his specially trained guard, we were also not too far from the city and we are on the far side of the city with the mountains being on the far side. There are scouts placed north and south of the border to make sure that no more Lycans can get close to the city.

The frustration, anger and of course their fear, was very evident as they trained and fought against me. They hit harder, moved faster, and thought better. All in all, they were just being more ruthless, which is probably because they were told that Lycans are harder to fight then rogue Angels. They didn't sign up for this, but it was a small part of their job that needed to be the only part of their job right now.

I didn't mind that they were fighting harder though. Even with my collar having weakened me so significantly, I could tell that I was getting stronger. Basically, this training was helping me more than them.

It was pushing me forward...

I had overheard the apprentices talking to Keegan on the first day that they returned. Apparently this Lycan ordeal was such a dire threat that even the apprentices were going to be sent into the battle if the Lycans are to come as a full fledged attack.

They were scared. I could smell their fear. But then again, they had a right to be scared. They were still at least 6 years younger than the average beginning Angel Hunter. And they were nowhere near ready. Today I finally got the courage from their cocky attitude and sloppy fighting to really tell them the cold, hard truth.

I was currently fighting the black haired boy, Jayden. His arm swung around with a brutal force. Leaning back I swung my own arm up and hit his forearm, adding momentum to his swing to throw him off balance. But instead of spinning out of control, he continued the turn and I didn't see his leg come up at the last second and get me across my ribcage.

Crouching over as the wind was knocked out of me, I tried to bring a leg up to defend myself against his next hit but I wasn't quite fast enough as Jayden brought a leg up and kicked me square in the chest knocking me flat on my back in the dirt

Right after the impact, my eyes shot open to see that Jayden was already crouched over me with one of his knifes at my throat.

"Dead..." I heard Keegan say to call the end of the fight.

I closed my eyes and sighed. I had been so good today, but I let my guard slip for one second and lost. It was late morning and this was their first win over me today. Getting off of me and putting his knife back into its sheath, he walked over to his two friends with a smile. The other male cheered him on and gave him something that I had learned was called a "high-five".

"That was so good! The way you used that hit against her and then kicked her down was amazing!" Sheridon cheered.

Jayden held his hands up in mock indifference, "It wasn't that good... Ok, yea it was the best move all day!"

It had been like this all week. After every win they would all boast as if this were all a game. They didn't take it seriously enough. Even Rachel took too much pride in her wins over me. And to think I thought she was the smartest one out of them all... I was finally sick of it.
