"Everyone will be doing a scene from one of Shakespeare's plays. It's your choice but I will pick your partners." That caught my attention. Acting? In front of the whole class? Yeah no thanks.
"Betty and Jughead." I looked up. We're partners? Oh how the universe is taking a liking to me recently. I looked over at Betty and she was smiling. We got the requirements for the project and were told to sit next to our partners which worked out for me because that meant I didn't have to move. There was a tap on my shoulder.
"Come on, Jug. We have to start working on our project."
"No," I grumbled. She started shaking my shoulder.
"Come ooonnnnnn." I chuckled and turned my faced people talking quietly. I turned my head back towards her and saw she was talking with one of her friends. Veronica, I think. Toni walked over to me.
"We should switch partners. I'll be with you and little miss pink princess can have her friend Cheryl or whatever her name is." I chuckled at her. "Why are you laughing? Did I make a joke and not realize it?" I shook my head.
"No, I just don't want to switch. I'm fine with my partner." She looked over at Betty then back to me.
"Seriously?" I nodded and closed my eyes. "Fine." I heard her boots tap against the ground as she walked away but Betty was still talking. I felt myself start to slowly drift off to sleep.
I felt someone shaking my shoulder.
"Wake uuuupp, Jug." I picked my head up and rubbed my eyes. "Finally, I've been trying to wake you up for like 20 minutes. Class is almost over," she giggled. I yawned and smiled at her.
"Sorry," I said and rubbed my eyes. She smiled sympathetically at me.
"How about we just work on this at my house after school?" I nodded and the bell rang. I tiredly picked up my backpack and started walking to my next class.
I had no classes with the Betty the rest of the day but I did have some with my Serpent friends so that helped me stay awake a little better. I was at locker after last period when Toni, Fangs, and Sweetpea came up to me.
"Yo, Jones."
"What's up, Pea?" I closed my locker and started making my way to Betty's locker where we agreed to meet up.
"You coming to the bar because this isn't the way?" I shook my head.
"No, going to Betty's to work on the english project." They all stepped in front of me, blocking the way.
"Seriously, Jones? What happened to bros before ho-" I put my hand up.
"Don't call her that. And it isn't like that. We're just working on the project because I was sleeping during the class." They all looked at each other and nodded their heads suspiciously.
"Fine," Toni said. "But next time we won't be so generous. We don't like the stench of Northsiders." I rolled my eyes.
"Yeah, okay." I pushed passed them and walked to Betty's locker. She had all over her stuff and was scrolling through her phone when I got there. I smiled at the fact that I was late and she still waited for me. "Hey," I said. She looked up at me.
"Hey. You ready?" I nodded. "Okay, perfect. Let's go." She grabbed my hand and we walked out to the parking lot. I grabbed my helmet off my motorcycle and handed it to Betty. "You're kidding, right?" I shook my head. "There's no way I'm getting on that death trap especially while you're tired. My mom will kill me." I sighed.
"Well what am I supposed to do about my motorcycle? I can' just leave it here." She bit her lip.
"Fine. Just go slow," she said and slipped the helmet on, buckling it under her chin. I climbed on the motorcycle and helped her on behind me.
"No no no no... it's much more dangerous when we go slow." She held onto me tightly and gave me the directions. I drove to her house and parked a little down the road from her house. She took off her helmet and handed to me. "Now we just walk to your house and nobody will even know I'm here." She smiled, grabbed my hand, and we started walking down the road. Her house was really nice. Like really nice. It was so much better looking than my dad's trailer and kinda made me embarrassed for the way I lived compared to her.
"You hungry?" I looked over at her.
"Always." She giggled and went into the kitchen. I walked into what I assumed was the livingroom and started looking at all the pictures. Most of them were just of Betty and an older looking woman or Betty, the woman, and a girl between the ages of Betty and the woman. There was one picture sticking out from under the couch. I picked it up and turned it over. The glass was broken but the picture was of Betty, the older woman, the middle girl and an older man. I heard Betty's footsteps and she walked up behind me.
"What'cha doing, Jug?" I turned to her.
"Just looking around." She smiled at me and her eyes fell on the picture in my hand. She sighed.
"Thought Mom through that away." She grabbed the picture and tossed it in the trash.
"Why?"
"That was the only picture of my family we still have left. My dad left a couple months ago and it really... damaged my family. But we're finally over it so we don't need picture like that anymore." I nodded. "C'mon. My rooms upstairs." I followed her. Her room was as expected, very pink. Everything was so bright and colorful. It honestly kind of hurt my eyes. She sat down at her desk and I sat down on her bed. It was really comfortable. She was trying to brainstorm ideas but I was having trouble focusing. She sighed. "This isn't working." I looked over at her.
"What do you mean?" She laughed.
"I can tell you aren't really paying attention." I sighed and laid back on the bed.
"I'm sorry. I'm trying." She got up and walked over to me. She sat down on the bed and put my head on her lap.
"Why don't you sleep some and I'll wake you up when my mom gets home. We'll work on the project then." I nodded and closed my eyes. It was the easiest and the best I had slept in a long time.
Sorry for not updating a lot. I've been kind of uninspired recently but now I'm on February vacation so I'll try and update more. Thanks for your patients. :)
