zero.
Iwaizumi sighed as he stared at a sleeping Oikawa on the other side of his bed. The poor angel had barely enough energy to move enough these days due to the intense spinal pain he had to endure on a daily basis, and had resorted to laying in bed most of the time. Neither Iwaizumi or Oikawa had found a way to turn Oikawa back into a human again, and Iwaizumi was starting to grow fearful. He reached his hand out to caress the soft hazel tufts of the angel's hair that he had grown so accustomed to caressing for the past few months, but stopped short when there was a slight groan from Oikawa as the brown-haired angel shifted slightly. Iwaizumi lowered his hand gently onto the mattress.
"I'm sorry, Torū. You've had to suffer so much."
The spiky-haired man bit his lip.
"Am I being selfish? For wishing so terribly for you not to leave?"
Iwaizumi chuckled softly, lying down slowly onto the bed next to the angel as to not rouse him from his pained slumber.
"Sometimes I wonder to myself if it's me or you who's suffering more...we haven't talked much for the past few days. And today's the last day."
Iwaizumi glanced at the digital clock on the bedside table, that read 00:01 AM. It was a new day, and possibly his lover's last day.
"Things could've been so different, Torū," Iwaizumi whispered, smiling to himself. "Perhaps if you and I were in a different time and place, things would've worked out for us. Or perhaps the universe has created a destiny of misery and tragedy for the both of us."
There was a brief silence, and Iwaizumi sighed.
"I was, and still am, willing to endure any sort of pain or punishment, whether physical or mental, to save you. I'm sorry that I'm just a useless human being..."
Another silence.
"Yes..." Iwaizumi said, his voice cracking slightly as a single tear rolled down his cheek. "Perhaps in another dimension. Perhaps things would've worked out."Iwaizumi closed his eyes and took a deep breath, before rolling over and settling down to sleep.
On the other side of the bed, Oikawa lay trying to control his rattled breaths and his pounding heart.
He had heard everything.
It was five in the morning, just before the crack of dawn. Oikawa had not been able to sleep a single wink; Iwaizumi's words rung repeatedly and clearly in his mind over and over, and the pains jabbing at his spine only seemed to get worse and worse. Stumbling as gracefully as he could out of bed and almost falling over, Oikawa made his way to the balcony of the mansion.
"Goodbye, Iwaizumi."
With the remaining strength he had in his body, Oikawa unfurled his wings for what would probably be the last time. The formerly white, fluffy feathers on his wings were now dull and caked with dried blood and dust. He flew away, and as high as he could, until he could view the village in which he had formerly resided in when he was still alive. Gently, Oikawa lowered himself down out of the sky so that he was in front of the train tracks that separate the grassy hills and wheatfields. He folded his wings, coughing and heaving as his knees almost buckled from the weight of his battered and torn wings. Slowly, he staggered his way to the front of the train tracks.
"Beyond here...the place where I spent most of my childhood. With Iwaizumi."
Oikawa smiled blearily, his vision shaking.
"I want to see it one last time."
Coughing again, Oikawa felt himself regurgitate a thin liquid from his throat. Spitting it into his outstretched hand, he saw that his blood had turned black. The black ink-like substance against his bony, grey-ish color hand was absolutely revolting. He was dying at an alarming rate.
