____________
{Shelby's POV}

I followed Green and Barney down the stairs of the apartment. The other rooms were open and the air smelled strongly of smoke. I cough and wafted it away. We went into an elevator and went down to the ground level.

"We have stuff set up down there," Barney started.

"Nobody uses it except for us. The other people who live here are too busy smoking pot and drinking their way through life they don't have the brains to even think to click the button." Green rolled his eyes as he finished.

The elevator door opened and we all stepped out. "Plus," Barney followed as he went over to a door that looked like a closet. He opened it and led us down the small stairwell that was inside. "We have a hidden room."

The room was a decent size. Along the back wall and to the right were shelves, cabinets and a counter with sinks. Then a huge bulletin board hung on the left wall and had papers strewn across it with string attaching to pictures and articles.

"What is this place?" I breathed.

"It's out little bunker." Green explained. "Sometimes Barney and the system come down here and plan."

"Plan for what?" I asked.

"Well, everything." Barney replies. "We have tried to figure out why this place is here."

"Why the walls are here." Green added on.

"Why we can't leave."

"And how we can get out."

"And what the government is doing with us." They said in unison.

"The government?" I asked, pretending not to know what they were getting onto. I knew exactly what though. They want us. To use us. People like me.

"Yes." Green said quietly. He blinked and looked like he was dissociating. After a moment he stopped, and stayed Green. "Sorry.. many alters want to front right now.." he mumbled.

"We believe," Barney said, "That the government is using us for something. That they need us to complete something. No one remembers why we are here! Everyone just goes along with it!"

"Look." Green said, "See this picture?"

I walked over to it. It was of a house with yellow tape around it. It looked like a crime scene. "This picture is of a house where a family was murdered and their child taken."

My eyes widened slightly, "Wh-What?"

"Yes." Green continued, "In fact, five other houses were broken into; the kids were taken and their parents murdered. On the same night."

"Who did-" I started but Barney cut me off.

"The government did this. We are sure of it. They did this to these families and there's nothing we can do. In fact, no one did anything. It's as if everyone overlooked it. Either they knew and didn't want anyone to know, or they just didn't care."

"And here," Green continued, "Are pictures of three boys who were taken from their homes. Kidnapped. Their parents weren't killed but one of them.. um.. committed suicide.." Green whispered. He took a moment and blinked. "I'm trying really hard not to let someone else front while I talk about this.."

Barney went over to him and placed his hands on his shoulders. "It's okay; it's okay." Barney continued Green's thought, "The point is: we know something is wrong. They didn't bother looking into the disappearance of the next two kids. Not at all. They searched for the first one for a few months but the search was called off. Now if we lived elsewhere, it might be overlooked, but we live in one city. After a few months you would've thought they would've at least found a body. Nope; nothing."
