Wyatt pulled out of that whole in a very inconspicuous manner. He grabbed me by the arm and slowly slithered through the halls, checking in every corner that existed if the path was clear. I had gone very itchy in places watching him being so careful.
If he wanted to hide the fact that he had double-crossed the Colonel he was doing a very bad job. My biggest problem now who was the one that now held his allegiance and who was so powerful and scary to make someone betray the Colonel.
In my world, the Colonel was the utmost evil. The peak of every devilry, the Devil himself, the spawn of Hell and the arsehole that shat him... You get the picture...
Was my viewpoint so clouded to lose all these years the bigger picture? Was I blinded by my own fears and drawbacks so much as to utterly forget to flip the coin and see what's on the other side?
Apparently, I was.
I was going to pay for that mistake. Gerard then came to my mind and his ever knowing sight towards the future. Was he capable of seeing things so far as to calculate all of this? If so, I was awed by him once more. If not, I was probably dead, seeing as that I was in the lair of the enemy with no exit strategy nor a weapon but my incredible looks, a pocketful of mouldy oats and a terrible plan.
For that matter, I really, really hoped Gerard had the brain to figure out everything before I lost control of myself and blurt out everything.
I was going to try to implement my scheme and fingers crossed, it might help a little.
'So, Wyatt, who are you working for?' I asked him loud enough for him to hiss, stop and place his hand on my mouth.
'Don't talk so loud!' he snapped whispering. Pissy are we?
After a moment of staring at each other's eyes, he removed the hand tentatively, probably worried that I was going to speak again and pulled me once more to move.
I waited and waited until I got impatient.
'You didn't answer my question.' I whispered and tugged my arm lightly.
'Shut up.' he snapped. Well, talkative are we?
I huffed and tugged a little harder.
Suddenly he stopped and turned to me once again with a very serious expression on his face.
'Listen to me, girl.' he grabbed me carefully by the shoulders, his disgusting breath fanned my face making me cringe 'I need ye to stay quiet for now and do what I say ye do. Or yer not getting outta here.'
I looked at him and examined his face. This was probably the most serious I had seen him, meaning he did want to get out.
I saw the visage of Gerard appear right next to Wyatt's face and I almost jumped out of my skin.
'The fact that he has to get you out as well, is probably a hefty paycheck he doesn't want to lose. Which in turn means that someone has paid him well enough to make him feed you, dress you and keep you unharmed. Though a little on the insane side...' Gerard mumbled looking intently at Wyatt.
'Are you on my side or what?' my mouth blurted out before I had managed to restrain it. I knew that that wasn't Gerard and if Wyatt thought I had truly gone insane, who knew, maybe he would shoot me.
I saw Wyatt's eyebrows scrunch together, he probably thought I had directed that question to him, and after a few trembling heartbeats, he graced me with an answer.
'I am on my side, girl. And right now my side means I have to get you out to get paid. Sooooo, I will get ye out and then I am dust in the wind.'
