"Everything is going good! The cake was voted first!" I smile brightly as I look down at my laptop screen. Watching as Mom and Dad listen intently to me as I catch them up on recent events through FaceTime.
"That's amazing hunny! Congratulations to yourself and Debra" Dad says with pride as Mom nods eagerly, the magazine in her hands being placed on her lap as she pushes her glasses up her nose.
"How is Debra actually? I miss her hot cross buns!" Mom giggles and I playfully shake my head to emphasise that I'm not surprised.
"She's doing really well."
"And Archie?" She asks as they both look at me with pleasant expressions.
"Archie is well. I actually haven't seen him in a week and a half" I mumble. Feeling my mood plummet.
He actually hasn't replied to my text messages. Obviously he has been busy with work and his new relationship but I just feel like I've been forgotten.
"A whole week and a half?!" They both ask astounded.
"That's a long time considering you both never leave each other's side?" Dad frowns and Mom nods in agreement.
"What happen?" Mom pouts a little, already feeling sympathy for me. Assuming the worse.
I mean could his new girlfriend be 'the worse'?
I sigh and fiddle with the hem of my shirt. "He got a girlfriend." I expected myself to sound a little more down but to be honest, I wasn't that upset. Sure I was a little bummed out but the distance is actually letting me breathe my own air this time. I'm experiencing things alone and hanging out with new people.
They both look surprised at that. "Well congrats to Archie but how are you feeling darling?" Mom raises her eyebrows.
"I mean it could be worse. I don't mind having my own space now"
"Archie is my best friend so I support him no matter what, and if I am his last thought right now then that's okay, because right now I want to find other things I may like doing with different friends."
"Well that is a healthy decision-"
Suddenly Dad is interrupted by a knock on their hotel door.
"That must be room service. We'll have talk to tomorrow hun. Have a great night and don't get up to anything i wouldn't" Mom pretends to scold me and I laugh.
