Chapter 4

It was lunchtime and Bill and I were sitting at our usual table. We have been friends ever since that party Maya had back in January two years ago. We were eating our lunches when Maya walked past us. As she passed us, she said to her friends:

“Wow, the freak and the messed up boy are still friends. Figures.” This ticked me off and I had to try and contain the tears that were trying to come out. Bill saw and heard this, too. He stood up and walked over to Maya’s table. Maya looked up at him and just flipped him off. Bill didn’t take it well and yelled “How dare you call my best friend a freak! She is nothing but nice to everyone and is treated like dirt. She isn’t afraid to be herself and you brand her a freak. If anyone is a freak, then it should be the people that are snotty to her. I don’t care that you called me messed up but Sienna doesn’t deserve to be called that.”

“Hey bastard! Stop yelling at Maya for stating the truth and go back to your bitch,” Todd yelled at Bill. I watched awestruck and with tears in my eyes as Bill punched Todd in the face. A teacher saw this and ran over to them to stop the fight that now took place between Bill and Todd. I ran over and tried to stop Bill from getting in trouble. In the process, I got punched in the eye. I fell to the ground while the teacher pulled Todd out of the lunchroom. “I’m glad I hit your shitfaced looking bitch. She deserves it,” Todd shouted as he was pulled from the room. Bill knelt down beside me and pulled me into his arms.

“Sienna, I am so sorry that you were punched. I swear that I’m going to make sure he gets punished for blemishing your face. You don’t deserve any of this,” Bill said to me as I cried out in pain into his chest.

“Mr. Kaufmann and Miss Gordon, why don’t you two go to the nurse, then make a stop by the principal’s office,” I heard a teacher say. We got up and headed for the nurse’s office. I got an ice pack for my eye and we went to the office.

Bill and I sat down in the seats in front of the principal’s office. A few minutes later Todd exited Mr. Hendricks’s office and Bill was called in. Todd sat down three seats away from me and scoffed.

“I can’t believe I got in trouble for fighting that asshole and just because he got pissed off at me for stating the school’s opinion of you,” he said disgustingly to me. More tears poured down my face. He continued going on about how much he hates me and Bill, mostly me. I just got more upset. When I was finally called into Mr. Hendricks’s office and Bill exited, I dashed into there. I sat down in a seat in front of his desk and tried to stop crying.

“Hello, Sienna. Would you mind telling me what had happened at lunch,” he asked me calmly.

“Well, Bill and I were eating our lunches, minding our own business, when Maya Callaway walked past us and made a comment that had upset me,” I began. “Bill noticed and went up to Maya to try to defend me. He yelled at her for making the comment. Then Todd Bradricks yelled at Bill to stop yelling at Maya for making the comment about me and that it was the truth. He also called Bill a ‘bastard’ and told him to go back to his ‘bitch,’ meaning me.” I took a deep breath.

“What comment did Maya make to upset both you and Bill?”

“She said ‘Wow, the freak and the messed up boy are still friends. Figures.’  After Todd made his comment Bill snapped and punched him. I tried to break up the fight but was punched in the eye by Todd. While Todd was being removed from the cafeteria, he said that he was glad that he hit me saying that I was ‘shitfaced looking’ and that I am a ‘bitch’ again.” I sobbed at the memory. Mr. Hendricks looked at me sympathetically.
