Chapter 6
Now we had one more day left of school in general. That is unless you got into college like me. Two months ago I received a letter from Quinnipiac University saying that I got a full scholarship to go there. That is where I will be attending in the fall. As for Bill, he got in there with one too. This was going to be perfect; I’d never have to be without my best friend. Right now I was on a raft in my pool tanning. Bill was over and doing the same thing. We have always spent the weekends together. My parents were out running errands and both of my sisters were at friends’ houses. This left me and Bill alone. The speaker I had brought out was blasting My Chemical Romance and Black Veil Brides.
“Hey Bill,” I shouted to him.
“What,” he responded.
“I still can’t believe that you are going to be class valedictorian. I always imagined it being me, but hey, that’s my conceited side showing that comes out every once in a while.”
“Oh you think you’re funny, huh?”
“Yes I do think I’m funny. Why?”
“Because you won’t be in a second,” Bill said menacingly.
“What do you mean by that, Bill?” Too late, I was already flipped over into the water. “Kaufmann, you’re going to pay for that!” I made my way over to him. I grabbed him by the legs and successfully pulled him underwater. I laughed at him as he came up for air.
“Sienna, you are diabolical when you are in a good mood and are provoked.”
“What can I say, it’s a gift.”
“Like everything else about you.”
“Exactly my Billa-bong.”
“Billa-bong? Where did you come up with that?”
“I remembered it from learning about Australia in seventh grade.”
“Boy is your memory sharp.”
“The sharpest.” I moved to one of the rafts and climbed on. Bill followed me and rested his arms on the side of the raft. He stared at me and I stared back.
“You are so amazingly interesting,” he said in a daze.
“Thanks,” I said in a daze as well. My cocky self had dissolved. We stayed like this for a while. He stared at me and I stared at him. It was like we were in our own worlds looking at each other. I could just imagine how his lips would feel on mine. Wait, stop thinking like that, he is your best friend. All of a sudden, he moved his right hand towards my face. His hand cradled my cheek leaving me with a sensation tingling where his skin touched mine.
“You have the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen. I know I’ve said that before but it’s true and I can’t help but look at them,” Bill said softly, his eyes filled with something I didn’t recognize. His eyes were filled with a softness that seemed caring. What was this new look in his eyes? I have to know. It had me stunned in the position I was in.
“Bill, I know you too well and I can’t make out the look in your eyes. What is that look in your eyes,” I asked him with sincerity laced in my words.
“You’ll find out tomorrow in my speech.” His voice turned from caring to teasing with that one sentence. Mood swings much? I looked at him confused. He just laughed at my facial expression and removed his hand from my face. My cheek felt cold without his warm touch there. I sat up on the raft and flung myself onto him. I wrapped my arms around his neck and we tumbled underwater. When he came up, I was still attached to him.
