Chpt 10: Ending is Near
Miku and Yugo arrive home an hour later after Miku had a few Duels with people wanting to take her on. Yugo didn’t mind, and was happy to see Miku win all of them. Miku was singing with joy as Yugo set his helmet down but before long his phone went off. Yugo took it out and saw Shido calling. Answering the phone, “Moshi Moshi.”
“Yugo. Kotori and Reine found out some news and are wanting a meeting ASAP. We’re coming to pick you up,” Shido said.
“Pick me up? Wait you mean use-” Before Yugo could finish the sentence he was on Fraxinus, or to be accurate on his knees trying to keep his lunch in. Origami and Miku were by him, Origami rubbing his back as Miku helped him find his footing. “You know how much I hate that!” Yugo said looking at a snickering Kotori.
“Oh stop whining,” Kotori said. Yugo got up and they followed Kotori to the usual meeting room. As they got seated around, Kotori wasted no time. “Saizo Hanoi. A Wizard and formed Scientist working for DEM,” Kotori said.
“Of course they are involved,” Shido said.
“DEM?” Yugo asked. “Who are they?”
“Deus Ex Machina. They are a company with a Fondness for Spirits, though in most cases if only to use them,” Reine said.
“Saizo was one of their Employees. Thanks to a little contact, we learned he left them about a year ago under unknown circumstances. Ever since then, he’s been off the radar,” Kotori further explained.
“And so then this Saizo guy is behind these girls showing up?” Miku asked.
“That’s still unclear. Even if Saizo could be the one using Mana to make them, he wouldn’t have much to do it. He wasn’t the strongest Wizard among DEM’s ranks from some of the data we’ve gotten,” Reine said.
“But you said he was a Scientist. Any idea what his work was?” Yugo asked.
“We couldn’t find it. Seems like when he left, he took it all. The only thing we could find was a single reference to some project called “Draco’s Soul,”” Kotori said.
“If I had to guess, it was based around bringing either Duel Monsters to life...or maybe seeing about things having souls,” Yugo said.
“Care to explain the thinking?” Kotori asked.“Draco Soul? It’s pretty clear. Draco as in True Draco, and Soul, the whole thing they are after. It’s clear he seemed to somehow make Duel Monsters alive. There’s this idea that Duel Monsters kinda...exist naturally, that the card is their gateway to this world. At this point, it might as well be true. From the sounds of it, Saizo wanted to use these gates and originally his plan might have focused around the True Dracos,” Yugo explained.
“That….that makes sense. Okay, how is you managed to figure that out?” Kotori asked.
“If I was evil and looking to take over the world, I would start by making Borreload Dragon real,” Yugo shrugged. “Big Gun Dragon strikes fear into those not ready.”
“Right. So then as discussed, their plan is to make these girls into their monster forms. They use the Souls of Duelists to do it, but then what is the end goal?” Shido asked.
“It could be they want to just remove humanity to an extent,” Reine said. “Yugo, El and Blaze both had a similar motive yes?”Yugo nodded. “Yeah. El went on about how humanity was wicked and needed to be removed. Blaze more or less wanted to put humans in their place,” Yugo remembered hearing.
“So then they are just looking to wipe people out?” Kaguya asked.
“It would seem as so,” Kotori said.
Everyone was silent for a moment, not sure what to think. Here they were now seeing the full threat. Creation of a monster army and the mass extinction of all of Humanity and possibly Spirit kind too. Yugo broke the silence. “So then, Kotori,” he looked at the red-headed Tsundere Commander, “How do you think this will go down? Think I might need more than my deck?” He asked her. Kotori just moved the lollipop in her mouth for a moment.
