"Rachelle, Leon called saying that he'll be over in the noon," Mom said, passing me a glass of water and a few pills of various colours. "He sounded down, did something happen?"
I nearly choked on my water as I swallowed the medication. My hand jerked, spilling half of the water from the glass on myself. Well, guess they were right when they say to never hide anything from mom, she's going to find out anyway. Mom hurriedly took a towel and wiped it on my arm to clean the mess I made on myself.
"Leon was upset because I told him to go home and spend some time elsewhere other than being here," I admitted guiltily.
"Rachelle," Mom called my name in a sigh and placed her hand on top of mine. I sat where I was, looking at her and not understanding her. A slight frown appeared on her lips as she continued, "What you went through was unimaginable and we may not understand fully, but we want to be here with you, especially Leon."
"I just didn't want him to spend too much time in the hospital," I mumbled.
"I know that you've asked that of him because you cared for him," Mom nodded. "But that boy tried every opportunity to be here with you, my baby girl. Before I arrived at the hospital yesterday, Leon gave me a call."
"What did he say?" I asked, my voice was cracking when a sob rose up my throat.
"He said, 'Pam, Rachelle will get nightmares when she's asleep. Please hold onto her hand so that she would sleep better and please don't tell her that I know.'" Mom sighed. "There are things that you didn't have to say and Leon already knew. That's how much he cared for you and we all know that it's not easy for you. We simply wanted to make everything better for you."
"Mom," I cried, unable to hold the tears back.
"I know, my baby girl, I know that you cared for us too," Mom comforted, wiping tears away from the corner of my eyes. "But please don't push us away, especially not Leon."
"We love you, Rachelle," Mom said, pulling me into her arms. Her hands cradled my head tenderly, combing through the dark strands of my hair as she whispered, "Let us be here for you."

It took a while to soothe all the tears and calm our emotions before Mom left my ward to fill the jug of water. I hesitated for a moment but reached towards the bedside drawers to take my phone from the surface and dialled Leon's number. He picked up the call after a while and he sounded confused when he called my name, "Rae?"
"Leo," I said his name carefully and I felt a strong urge to cry the moment I heard him through the phone.
"Sweetheart, what's wrong?"
"Could y-you get me a d-doughnut later?" I sniffled.
A burst of laughter boomed through the speakers. "You wanted a doughnut that badly?"
