November 22st 1960
"Finn!" I could hear my mother yell from the bottom of the stairs.
Sighing, I shuffled my way out of bed, downstairs. "What is it mum?"
"Phone."
Who'd be calling me? Reluctantly, I took the phone that was placed on the table, placing it against my ear.
"Hello?" I questioned the unknown caller.
A few seconds of shuffling went on before the caller replied, "Finn?"
The familiar voice of Louise Harrison filled the girls left ear, "Mrs Harrison? Is everything okay?"
"Oh, everything's fine dar," the woman reassured her, "it's just, George got on the ferry home last night, and he'll probably be arriving soon. Harold and I thought maybe you'd want to come and see him with us?"
George was on his way home? I thought they were planning on stopping until New Years?
After seconds of consideration Finn answered the woman, "Thank you for the offer, I'll be sure to take you up on it. What time will he be arriving?"
"Well actually dar," Mrs Harrison started, "we're here now, I'm ringing from the pay, would you be able to be here soon?"
Finns brows raised, they were waiting for him already? And, oh god she had plans with Kath this morning. No time to waste then.
"I'll be as quick as light ma'am."
As she was hanging up the phone she could hear Mrs Harrison speak, "it's Louise dar."
Sprinting up the stairs she was quick to get ready. But wait, what should she wear? She never cared of her clothes before so why should she now? Secretly she knew that she wanted to prove to the boys how much they've missed. She wanted them to be jealous of what they left behind when they set sail across the sea.
She pulled up some black pants and rolled them up to mid-calf. A white button up shirt that Kath had stolen off of her scrawny male cousin, the buttons were only done up to just below her collar bone, careful to accentuate her chest. And the red bandanna Kath donated was wrapped up in her loose, wavy brown hair. The outfit was incomplete without her hip length checkered black and white coat, and her school shoes with white socks the reached her ankle.
She put on some red lipstick and was careful to dab some off to look less tacky.
And with that she was finished. She examined herself in the mirror and was impressed. Her rushing around had probably made her take more time but it was worth it for the end result.
If the boys didn't appreciate her back before they left they sure as hell would now.
Looking at the clock it had taken her 15 minutes to dress, "shit." She muttered as she sprinted down the stairs.
She grabbed a handful of change from the change bowl and left through her front door.
There Kath was, opening the front gate, smiling at the girl. Unaware of what was going on.
"Come on!" Finn yelled as she went sprinting for the bus stop. Kath was quick to follow her, impressed by the outburst.
The bus arrived just as they got there. Finn gave all the change she brought and took the ticket, leaving what she didn't owe with the bus driver and sat near the front on the bottom deck.
Kath begrudgingly payed for a ticket, same as Finn and sat with her friend.
"What's gotten into you?"
