It had been ten years since the sins were framed. Ten years since I had last seen most of my friends. But I knew, as I looked down at my sunflower with only one petal left, that my time to see a specific someone was close.
The sun that was filtering through my window shone on the yellow petal that I was delicately twirling between my fingers, thinking of the boy I was supposedly meeting today. After a second of admiring the flower, I left it on my bed as I got changed into my Holy Knight outfit, taking off from the small house.
The streets of Welshire were lively in the late mornings until late at night. They were famous for their spices but were often ambushed by bandits. Which is why I, an ex-sin, thought this was a great opportunity to still do what I love, fighting. A little less exciting then what I did before we were framed, but most other stuff would draw attention. I had to lay low, even if it meant doing boring work.
I strolled over to my favourite place, the coffee shop, where many people greeted me on the way. Lavender filled the edge of their porch mixing perfectly with the scent of baked goods and lattes. The morning sun graced the small café with its beauty, giving the place a pleasant mood.
I made my way to the till, which barely had a person in the queue, despite the place being fairly busy and ordered my favourite breakfast. I just had to wait.
I was eating a blueberry muffin when all of a sudden I heard a voice. It was one that was hard not to ignore, especially after being around him for the past three thousand years.
"Sir Meliodas! What are we doing here?" A high pitched voice questioned.
"Well, other than getting spices, I'm hoping to meet someone," He answered, his tone clear that no more questions should be asked. It was him, for sure.
Ah, so he kept the flower... Still had to be on guard. I left a coin on the table as I jumped on the rooftops of various buildings, following the duo stealthily.
I caught a glance of a certain blonde idiot, who's emerald eyes were unmistakable. Tsk tsk, (Y/N). It could be a hide and seek. These Holy Knights would do anything to catch me, even stooping as low as recruiting a species which had no part in their evil ways. Even after ten years, they were desperate, and it was pathetic.
As I ran from rooftop to rooftop, not making a noise, I could tell his footsteps had stopped. I wasn't being as stealthy as I thought since he had already spotted me. I hated to admit it, I was rusty.
Sighing in defeat, I jumped down from the rooftop I was on. I landed in front of a girl with silver hair, the boy who I believed was the sin of wrath and a... Pig...? After taking note of the three in front of me, I stared them down menacingly, ready to strike in case they weren't who I thought they were.
"What flower did I give you three years ago?" I asked who I hoped to be Meliodas. I needed to know who he was, and a question only he would know seemed to do the trick.
The blonde smiled brightly, already knowing the answer, "You gave me a sunflower, and kept one for yourself. You were always a fan of twin gold things, for some reason. When the last petal of that sunflower fell, you said we would finally meet," he stated, adding unimportant details to show it was him.
His green eyes sparkled, watching as my eyes softened and my posture unstiffened. I ran towards Meliodas as he opened his arms.
Digging my face into his neck, he made sure to have his face far from my breasts, as he would get flung to Camelot had he done that. It would seem weird to normal people that I would have to worry about perverted actions like this, but they didn't know Melio as I did. He would go far and beyond to shove his nose down a pair of boobs.
"I had to make sure it was you, and it really is," I whispered, breaking from the hug. It had been just under three years since I had last seen him, and given the fact that that was the longest time we'd been apart in ages, it was quite hard.
Meliodas smiled warmly, "Of course it's me! No one could ever impersonate these good looks!" I rolled my eyes. His ego was incredibly huge and everyone knew that. He then realized that the other girl was just standing there, looking a little shy, "(Y/N), meet Princess Elizabeth and Captain Hawk of the order of scrap disposals. Elizabeth, Hawk, meet (Y/N) (L/N), wolf sin of loneliness and my long time... Uh, comrade...?" I snorted, already falling back into the norm.
"It's an honour to meet you l- lady (Y/N)!" The princess stuttered nervously.
"Please... Just (Y/N) is fine. And really, the honour is all mine, Princess Elizabeth. Last time I saw you, you were still a little runt." I curtsied midway through my greeting. Sure, she was young and had a bit of an annoying voice, but she was still royalty.
"And I'm Hawk, captain of the order of scrap disposals!" A random voice stated.
"Huh?" I looked around, confused. Melio had said a Hawk was here, but as far as I was concerned, there was only us on the street. That was when the realization hit me. As the pink pig stared up at me with its beady little eyes, I had a suspicion that the pig actually spoke. I turned to Meliodas, a grin on my face, "You found a way to make a pig talk. Bravo, after three thousand years, you still manage to surprise me," Elizabeth didn't hear that, no need to worry. I'm pretty sure she thought he was actually a thirteen year old.
"It wasn't him!" the pig, Hawk, huffed "He couldn't do that! I, the amazing Hawk, was born like this!" Ah, this one had spirit. Might come in handy. Determination was powerful.
"Well it's a pleasure to meet you Hawk" I responded, crouching to get to his level. If his cheeks could get any pinker, they did. "So anyway, Melio," I said, standing back up to face everyone, "Why are you with the princess?"
This time the girl herself spoke up, "I ran away from Liones in fear that the Holy Knights were planning something evil! That was when I started my plan to recruit the eight deadly sins. My father used to tell me stories about them, and I couldn't believe that they changed so suddenly!" Awe, she was adorable. She clutched her shirt tightly, a strong shine in her eyes, "I believe in you."
I couldn't help but tease her. I didn't like heartfelt and serious situations, so I always ruined them, "Well, you shouldn't. We really did kill the Grand Master and slaughter all those innocent-"
"(Y/N)!" Meliodas scolded me and I snorted for the second time that day.
"Jeez, sorry! Just having a little fun. Yes, Princess, you can trust us. Who've you found so far?" I asked.
"Well so far, just Diane but we're heading to Baste afterwards for Ban," the green-eyed sin said.
Don't squeal. Don't smile. Do NOT show any feelings for Ban. Not after what he did to you...
I played it pretty cool but I could tell that Melio saw the shine in my eyes that I couldn't help but let through. Yes, he broke my heart. But even still, my heart leapt at the thought of him.
"Welp! Let's get going then!" I smiled and started skipping off to where I sensed Diane's power, the others following close by.
