"We're too late," I mumbled, already feeling the exhaustion kicking in after that jump, "Sorry I couldn't get us any closer. I would have passed out if I tried,"
Ban shook his head, "You've done just fine, Shrimpy,"
I shot him a grateful smile, my eyes drooped over slightly. We were currently in the middle of Liones, quite a bit away from the castle. Around us, there were many explosions, screams and just overall chaos. It seemed the demons worked quickly, unfortunately for us.
Nevermind that. Our main goal is to get to the castle.
Interlacing my hand with Ban's, we started making our way through the capital, winding through streets filled with debris and avoiding any demons.
I was struggling to keep my legs moving, nevermind attacking demons. Ban did that if we did come across any, but running was our priority.
I scanned my eyes around the area as we ran, pinpointing all or friends and foes, "He's not up yet," I sighed to myself. I could feel Zel and the other commandments scattered around the city, all heading towards the palace just as we were. Thankfully, there were various paths we could take in order to avoid them.
Little did I know that two commandments were watching us run at that very moment.
"Do... Do you think we could've had what they have?" Derieri wondered, watching out interlaced hands with saddened eyes.
"What's stop-" Monspiet paused, realizing what he was about to say, "That does not matter. We are servants to the Demon King,"
It's not the first time love would have been blocked by the Demon King. In fact, it seems that the Demon King is quite a fan of that.
But the thought lingered in both their minds. What life could've been. Or more, what it could be.
"Watch out!" I yelled, pulling Ban over to a side as a huge blast came from a grey demon.
I gritted my teeth in annoyance, my mind working like crazy to find the best possible route without bumping into Zeldris or Estarossa. The stupid grey demon blocked out our best way.
"What do you want me to do?" Ban asked.
I shook my head, "You're not fighting it. It'll only slow us down,"
Ban frowned, "Then what?"
Biting the inside of my lip, I didn't realize that it had now started charging towards us. Each step was like ten metres, meaning the distance between us was closing and fast. I glanced at Ban who got his nunchucks ready, about to face the demon head-on.
As he was about to pounce, a bright ray came shooting at it from behind us, burning a huge hole into its chest. The large stone looking thing collapsed and hit the floor with a loud crash, the wound in its stomach letting off smoke.
I watched it with wide eyes, slowly turning to see who our mysterious saviour was. An attack like that was...
Imagine my surprise when I was met with a bright pair of purple eyes.
"Arthur!?" I laughed, watching as the boy lowered his sword (which I assumed was where the beam came from), "Holy shit! Since when could you do that?"
The ginger approached us, a huge proud smile on his face, "Since now! Ever since you talked about getting my kingdom back, I've been feeling more powerful than ever!"
Ban let our an impressed huff, "Not bad, kid,"
That made the young boy's smile brighten even more, "Thank you, Sir Ban! I'm glad you two are okay. I guess you guys are heading to the castle?"
