Daniel had been planning to spend a peaceful holiday back at home with his mother. He wanted to buy gifts, eat good food and overall spend quality time with the most important person in his life.

But unfortunately, his little vacation couldn't be as peaceful as he wished for. His bullies from before still had the nasty habit of assaulting him for fun, and though Daniel could defend himself better now he decided to have his other body stay at his mother's too.

At the bus station, it was a pleasant surprise to see Jay there. And seeing (Y/N) sitting in the same bus that he planned to be going on distracted him from Jay throwing away an expensive ticket and boarding the same bus as the both of them.

She seemed to be too busy arguing with somebody on the phone to even notice either of them.

"Yeah, I know you haven't seen him in a while but I have plans too. I promised to cook and-"

"Can I sit here?" Daniel asked politely, taking the liberty of picking up (Y/N)'s backpack, which she had on the seat next to her.

He was stopped abruptly by a tight grip on his wrist and looked from the bag to see (Y/N) looking at him coldly. But when she took a moment to look at his face she recognized him and winced with an apologetic look.

She nodded and moved her bag into her lap and help up one finger and then pointed at her phone with it.

'Oh, she needs a minute.'

One the other line, (Y/N)'s boss sighs.

"I know, I'm sorry doll. I just can't trust anyone to protect my little boy like you do. I promise I'll make it up to you."

"I want you to promise that he'll be here on time." (Y/N) said with a slightly passive aggressive tone.

"You know I can't do that..."

(Y/N) bit on the inside of her cheek for a moment. "I'll see you tomorrow then."

"Maybe."

(Y/N) huffed and hung up the phone, tucking her tongue into her cheek to keep herself from screaming in frustration and tearing her hair out like a madwoman.

"Uhh, r-rough day?" Daniel asked with an unsure smile.

(Y/N) snapped her head to look at Daniel, almost glaring a bit before it melted into a small amused smile.

"You could say that." She said with a huff.

"What's making it so rough?" Daniel pressed.

"I'm on a job right now, even though my boss said I'd be off at this time last week." She turned around in her seat and looked at Jay. "So no drinking this time."

Jay grinned and nodded.

"Oh? This is a really far pizza delivery." Daniel mumbled distractedly, 'Were (Y/N) and Jay drinking together?"

"Are you trying to make me laugh or are you stupid?" (Y/N) asked plainly.

Daniel flushed and scratched the back of his neck. "W-Well, I guess I failed if you think I'm stupid." He lied.

"Not really, I almost laughed." (Y/N) said with a playful smirk.

They were quiet for a moment, (Y/N) slouching in her seat and looking out the window and Daniel zoning out, thinking.

"Wait, if you're not delivering pizza then what's your other job?" He wondered aloud.

"What are you, a cop?" (Y/N) snapped, narrowing her eyes at Daniel.

"W-What?" 'Why's she so defensive? What's she really doing?'

"You working with the feds, Danny?" She asked again, but her facade broke with a quiet laugh.

"I'm kidding. I'm just picking up my boss's son, he's coming home for the holidays." She left out the part where she's supposed to protect him with her life if it comes to it.

"Oh, that's nice of you. He doesn't live with his mother either?" Daniel asked curiously.

"Nope, she made him move out."

"She kicked him out?! Then why is she having him back for the holidays?" Daniel exclaimed loudly, earning an aggressive shush from someone sitting a few rows ahead.

"No, she made him move to somewhere she felt was safer. We don't live in a good area, you know." (Y/N) whispered, leaning in a bit closer so Daniel could hear her.

Daniel subtly shifted lower into his seat so he'd be level with the girl.

"So she makes her son move to a better area but let's you stay in an area that she doesn't think is safe?"

"I'm an employee, not family." She explained.

"Ah, but still-"

For the rest of the ride, (Y/N) and Daniel chatted about everything and everything. Once they got off, Daniel was heading off and (Y/N) was walking to wherever her boss's son lived.

Daniel had already begun to walk off with Jay when (Y/N) got a phone call. He stops short, somebody bumping into his back when he hears the girl's voice echo

"That MOTHERFUCKER."

"Aye, you watch your mouth. That's my son you're talking about." Her boss scolded from the other line.

"And it's your son that's making me stay in the middle of who knows where for an extra day. I was supposed to be home tonight." (Y/N) hissed.

"I'm sorry! It's not his fault his teacher told them the date for the final the day before the final. I'm gonna have a chat with him, trust me."

(Y/N) sighed and visibly collected herself. "Fine, okay. I'll find a hotel or something, and tomorrow I'm going to drag him back to the city if I have to."

"You're here to protect him, not kill him, dammit. But do feel free to smack him once. He has it coming."

"Yeah, I'll keep that in mind." (Y/N) said before hanging up. She threw her head back and clenched her jaw, trying to contain her frustration for the second time that day.

Daniel gulped and walked up to her, Jay trailing behind him. 'I hope she doesn't take it out on me, I do not want to get on her shit list.'

"H-Hey (Y/N)?"

"What?" She grunted, not meaning to be rude but she was really roughing it out right now.

"Y-You can stay the night with me and my mom if you'd like. T- W-We always have room for one more." Daniel offered, and (Y/N) tilted her head to the side to look at him, unsure.

"Would that be okay? I really can't afford a stay at a hotel right now."

Daniel beamed at her, excited to be spending time with his two friends.

"Of course!"
