Working the night shift could be lonely, so Daniel appreciated any company he could get. While (Y/N) usually kept pretty quiet, just her presence felt comforting and safe.
She watched quietly as Daniel checked out yet another customer, sipping on the melon milk she had bought for herself. However, after Daniel finished ringing the customer up, (Y/N) was gone.
"Huh?"
'Where'd she go?'
"(Y/N)?" He called out, 'She wouldn't leave without saying goodbye, right?'
However, his worries were quelled when he saw (Y/N) raise her hand in one of the aisles to let him know she was still there.
"Sorry!" She chirped, making her way to the register with the couple of cans of Spam in hand, "I forgot to grab something."
"Oh, it's fine! I just thought you left." Daniel explained.
"Oh, no. I would have said goodbye."
"I know."
She placed the four cans onto the counter for Daniel so scan.
'Is she having weird cravings?' Daniel wonders. 'It's not like she's never bought this before, but she's never bought this much at once...'
After paying she gathered the cans back into her arms and began walking towards the door.
"Where are you going?!"
"I'll be right back." She said, pushing the door open with her back.
"B-But, your stuff!" Daniel argued, looking from the phone and backpack she left on the counter and back to her.
"I'm not too worried, it's in good hands." She said casually, playfully winking at Daniel before slipping out the door.
He stared at the door for a moment in... shock?
He replayed the wink in his hear over and over again, his cheeks progressively becoming warmer and warmer.
'Well... she's never done that before.'
His eyes trailed back to the items she left for him to watch. Her phone and more importantly her backpack.
'She really left it with me? I've never seen her without it before... and I've never seen anybody but her touch it.'
He was unable to draw his eyes away from the bag, his fingers twitching by his side.
'What could she be hiding in there...?'
He shakily began to reach towards the bag.
'She wouldn't mind if I took a peek... right? She said it's in good hands...'
Just as his fingers brushed the bag's zipper, nudging the teddy bear keychain, (Y/N)'s phone went off.
"AH!" Daniel yelped, falling back onto his butt.
'It's just her phone!'
He placed his hand over his racing heart and sighed with relief. He stood up, brushing himself off and picked up the phone which was still ringing.
On the screen, Huo's contact was displayed, his contact photo was a selfie he had taken of him in one of (Y/N)'s hoodies, which was obviously too small for him.
"(Y/N) probably wouldn't want to miss this.." he said, walking out the door to find her to give her the phone.
He looked both ways down the street, (Y/N) was nowhere to be found.
"Hello?" Daniel called, walking down the street a bit to see if (Y/N) was there.
He was totally clueless as to where she could be until he heard a quiet voice coming from a nearby alley.
"It's been a while, huh? That's my bad, but look how much I can buy you now! Try some."
Daniel paused, 'Who in the world is she talking to?'
"(Y/N)?"
There was a sharp gasp from the alley and the sound of paws running off. The girl was glaring up at him from where she fell on her bum into a pillow, a chunk of spam that had a large bite taken out of it still in hand.
"What are you doing?" Daniel asked.
She huffed and tossed the piece of spam further into the alley.
"Meeting with an old friend." She said lowly, crossing her arms and pouting to herself.
"An old fr-"
Daniel was interrupted by growling coming deeper in the alley. A mangy dog came creeping at the shadows and obviously ready to lunge at Daniel.
He backed up slowly and held his hands up to show he was defenseless.
"G-Good puppy, you stay back..." he said shakily, nervously looking to (Y/N) for help.
(Y/N) only scoffed, swatting at the dog.
"Oh, cut it out." She scolded before her eyes began to sparkle and her entire demeanor changed.
"You big meanie~" she cooed, and the dog's tail began wagging as it ate the meat that (Y/N) had tossed earlier.
Both teens watched the dog eat for a moment.
"So... what's your friend's name?" Daniel asked, crouching down so he could get a better look at the dog. Its body language changed to a more defensive stance, but it continued eating so it obviously didn't care too much.
(Y/N) smiled softly at the dog and then turned to look at Daniel, but her expression quickly dropped back into a glare before she could answer.
"(Y/N)?" Two voices asked at once.
"Crystal." (Y/N) practically spat.
