The next few days in Atlantis were quiet. With the Wraith still unaware of their existence and no word about Michael or any of the other Wraith who reverted, life on the base was able to get back to normal.

McKay had a new project he was working on and he recruited all of the science teams to work on it including Kai. He and Samantha Carter on earth were working on building a bridge system out of gates to shorten the travel time between Atlantis and earth. While it was a very interesting concept the actual process was arduous and boring.

Kai ended up in an otherwise empty lab scanning through Ancient database looking for locations of space gates around uninhabited planets that could be harvested and added to their bridge. They needed 34 in total which was a tall order.

The project was taking up most people's time and Kai hadn't seen John for a few days. His team was on point for going to possible locations and deciding if the gate was needed or not. Kai had finished up for the evening and was walking back through the gate room when she came face to face with Weir.

"Kai," she said in surprise. "Good to see you, I was wondering if you had a moment if we could talk?"

Kai kept her face impressively blank but her mind was racing trying to figure out what Elizabeth could possible have to discuss with her. She hadn't been around the leader of the expedition much in the last few weeks.

"Oh course," Kai agreed.

Elizabeth gestured towards her office and Kai obediently followed her across the gate room towards the stairs.

The gate activated and the men standing guard swung around to face the wormhole, guns in hand.

"Off world activation," Chuck called down from the control room. "Colonel Sheppard's IDC," he assured them and everyone relaxed as the shield dropped.

John and his team stepped into the gate room. John hesitated and sneezed. Kai stopped and turned to face him. He sneezed again. He waved his hand. "Just a cold," he told Elizabeth and Kai.

"Did you meet with the leader? What was he like?" Elizabeth asked.

John's face pinched up in annoyance. "I think the word we're looking for is-"

"Obnoxious? Unctuous?" McKay supplied, stepping into the conversation.

"Well, either one of those works," John agreed exhaustedly. The man had been beyond obnoxious, he had been slimy and abrasive.

"Then again, the townspeople seem to love him, so maybe there's something to his medicines," McKay said with a shrug.

"Sounded like a snake-oil salesman to me," John said. "But it might be worth it to have Beckett check it out."

"What's snakeoil?" Kai asked with a frown.

John opened his mouth to reply but Elizabeth cut him off. "Well, I'm sure Carson will be able to get us an answer pretty quickly. So it's back out to scout for gates?" She asked.

"Yes right away," McKay said quickly. He turned to Kai. "Do you have another list for me?"

"It's not a race Rodney," Sheppard admonished.
