Allies cont.
><><"Are we there yet?" Sheppard called sarcastically as he walked onto the bridge of The Daedalus. They were in hyperspace already, following the friendly Hive to the rendezvous where they would face a rival Hive to test the retrovirus gas.
Caldwell turned and scowled at both him and Kai who was trailing behind him. Kai had been absolutely right, Caldwell was pissed Kai was back on his ship and armed this time.
"Do you have any idea how difficult these maneuvers are going to be?" Caldwell demanded doing his best to ignore the armed Mortii standing over the Colonel's shoulder. He would never understand Sheppard's proclivity for surrounding himself with strays. The aliens of this system seemed nice enough, but Caldwell had been around enough from the Milky Way to know they couldn't be fully trusted. They may look human but that didn't mean they would behave the way you expected. The Mortii in particular made him wary, she wasn't even human.
"I'm guessing really difficult?" Sheppard responded, his sarcastic retort breaking Colonel Caldwell from his thoughts.
"We're going to be flying so close to that Hive ship you could reach out and touch it," Caldwell growled. "I'm going to insist on a few practice runs before we approach the enemy."
"I'm sure they'll be fine with that," Sheppard said placatingly.
"Coming out of hyperspace," one of the technicians called.
The inertial dampeners made it so they didn't feel the transition from hyperspace back to normal space, but Kai could hear the change in the engines.
Caldwell turned back to the technician. "Get McKay on the radio I want him to-"
As soon as the black of normal space appeared and the hyperdrive disengaged the ship was hit by rapid fire. The impacts threw the ship violently sideways. Caldwell staggered, barely catching himself on his chair. John was thrown into Kai. Instead of allowing himself to land on her he wrapped an arm around her waist and twisted them in mid-air. His shoulder hit the deck with Kai sprawled on top of him.
He grunted in pain. "Ugh, that hurt," he muttered.
"It's all muscle," she countered quickly.
John snorted as the two of the climbed to their feet.
The ship was struck again and they staggered. John gripped one of the support railings and grabbed Kai's upper arm so she wasn't thrown across the bridge. Alarms blared all around them.
"Shield's to maximum!" Caldwell yelled, climbing into his chair.
"Decks 1 through 7 of the forward section have decompressed and we're venting atmosphere!" one of the techs yelled.
"Seal off those sections, get a damage control team down there!" Caldwell ordered.
There was another flash of explosions on the front of the ship as the Wraith fired again. Alarms were blaring from all of the damaged system so loudly it hurt Kai's ears.
"Who's firing on us?" John demanded. He staggered over to stand behind Caldwell's chair where he could brace himself.
"I have two hive ships bearing down on our position, sir," the technician replied. "One of them is the friendly."
