Chapter 18 || A New Sheriff in Town
The next morning, despite everything in me screaming at me that I was making a huge mistake, I woke up extra early and got dressed to go to school on a Saturday. I pulled on a black sweater and a pair of skinny jeans, opting for my worn black Converse over my new heeled shoes. I threw my hair up into a ponytail and yawned as I walked into the kitchen. I brewed some coffee and poured myself a mug, sipping it black.
"Ready to go?" Jughead asked, pouring himself a cup of coffee too. I nodded in response to his question, grabbing my bag and sitting at the kitchen table. I let out another yawn as I finished off my coffee, watching Jughead as he rolled an apple toward me. "Eat something, Kitty."
"Fine." I nodded, biting into the apple. "But only because my brain demands food for tests."
Jughead cracked a smile at me and grabbed an apple for himself. He grabbed dad's truck keys and offered me his arm playfully.
"Let us go to school, dear sister." He joked in a funny accent. I place my hand in the crook of his elbow, allowing him to lead me out to dad's truck.
"Yes, let us take our chariot to school, dear brother." I mocked his accent, climbing into the cab of the truck. We both laughed in the cab for a few minutes before he pulled out of Serpent camp. The radio filled the silence as we both ate our apples. It was nice, just hanging out with my brother. "Hey, Juggy?"
"Yes?" He asked, lowering the volume of the radio.
"I think we should hang out together soon." I voiced. "Just us, like we used to."
"Yeah," Jughead nodded, smiling over at me. "Yeah, I think that'd be nice."
"Maybe we can drag dad out into the living room for a movie night, too." I laughed. "Like old times."
"I missed you, Katarina." Jughead sighed, pulling into a parking space outside of the school. "Even though you're already home, I still miss you; the old you."
"Maybe the way to bring her back is to watch a movie with her slightly older brother." I teased, offering him a smile.
"Shut up." He laughed, climbing out of the truck. I followed suit, closing the door behind me before running to catch up with him.
"Come on, Juggy!" I laughed, grabbing onto his shoulders. "You love me."
"Don't flatter yourself." He scoffed, standing beside Betty with a smirk.
"Hey, guys." Betty greeted Jughead with a kiss before sending me a wave.
"Hey Betty." I smiled, She and Jughead spoke with each other silently for a few minutes before we were instructed to take our seats. We piled into the History classroom, and I found a seat between Jughead and Archie right behind Betty.
"You have thirty minutes to complete the first portion of the SAT Math section." The teacher overseeing the SATs said, handing out the last booklet. "When you are finished, do not skip ahead to other sections. I will issue a five-minute warning for your convenience prior to the time limit. Do you all understand?"
We all nodded in her direction, and she smiled.
"Good." She glanced up at the clock, waiting until exactly 8:00am to tell us to begin. "You may begin."
I opened my booklet, easily going through the math problems. I was on the second page of questions when Archie sudden;y stood up, startling me slightly.
"Is there a problem?" The teacher asked, watching as Archie headed toward the door. He didn't respond, he just stormed out of the classroom. Veronica jumped up and followed after him, stopping in front of the teacher's desk.
