Chapter 29 || Spill the Beans

"Sweet Pea, duck!" Jughead yelled.

"Bang, bang!" Mr. Keller sounded, ending the simulation. I flipped on the lights and sighed. "You're both dead. Always check your six, Deputies."

"It's a deadly mistake." I stated, walking beside my father.

"This is just a simulation, but you don't get any do-overs on the street." Mr. Keller explained.

"Which makes it all the more obvious that you boys aren't ready for them." Dad pressed. "You wanna stop the rogue Gargoyles?"

"Work as a team." I finished.

"Till you've proven you can do that, I'm not letting you out there." Dad decided. "Do it again. Hit the lights, Kit. Let's go, Jug!"

"Why isn't she running it with us?" Jughead groaned.

"I did my simulation with other officers." I shrugged. "And I didn't get myself or anyone killed."

"And she's busy with school stuff." Dad added. "She gets a pass on this one."

"Don't die." I smirked, shutting the lights off.

On Saturday morning, I stumbled up the stairs and into the kitchen, finding my family sans my dad around the kitchen island.

"Morning." I mumbled, grabbing my coffee mug from the cabinet.

"Morning." Jughead grinned. I poured myself a cup of coffee and picked up a piece of bacon from his plate. "Hey!"

"You're my twin." I shrugged. "We shared food in a womb."

"I thought I was free of that." He teased.

"For about five minutes, maybe." I teased back, sipping my coffee.

"Hey, hon." Gladys greeted my father. "Why the long face?"

"One of my deputies found our old trailer..." Dad trailed off, glancing between Gladys and I. "Or what was left of it. It was burnt to a crisp. They found, uh, drug cooking material inside."

"What?" I gasped, playing my part of shocked daughter well.

"Oh, my." Mom reacted, glancing between Jughead and I. "In our trailer?"

"Our little town can't seem to catch a break." Jughead spoke.

"Remove one cancer, another one takes its place." I added, looking between my dad and Gladys.

"I'm sorry, pumpkin." Dad sighed, kissing my forehead.

"It's alright." I smiled softly. "We can make new memories, daddy."

"Come on, dad." Jellybean smiled, picking up her plate. "We're missing the Saturday morning cartoons."

"Alright." Dad grinned, following after her. I sipped my coffee and leaned against the stove, watching my brother and Gladys eye each other.

"Did you really think that blowing up that decrepit trailer would change anything?" Gladys asked once Jellybean and dad were gone.

"Oh, I'm not gonna stop until you are out of Riverdale." Jughead whispered. I nodded in agreement.

"Well, you better buckle up then, because I'm not going anywhere." Gladys smirked, moving toward me. She put her hand in my hair and tugged my head backward so she could whisper in my ear. "And here's a tip. Don't cross me again."
