Chapter 35 || Noah

"Where are you going?" Sweet Pea whined as I got up from the bed.

"Upstairs for some real food." I laughed, turning toward the bedroom door.

"But-" Sweet Pea went to protest.

"I'll bring you down some food, okay?" I offered, kissing his cheek. "I have to check in with JB and Jug anyway."

"Alright." Sweet Pea nodded, watching me as I walked out of the bedroom. Once I was on the first floor of the house, I wandered into the kitchen, spotting my twin and my little sister silently watching each other.

"Hey, kid." I greeted, wrapping an arm around JB. "How are you holding up?"

"You mean, considering that mom abandoned me?" JB asked, a note of sadness in her voice.

"She didn't abandon you." Jughead sighed like he had had this conversation before. "Actually, mom leaving town was probably the most selfless thing she's ever done."

"I've never lived anywhere without her." Jellybean stated sadly. I kissed her temple and moved toward the fridge, pulling out the milk and a couple of eggs.

"Well, I'm glad you decided to stay." I told her, rummaging through the cabinets for the necessary ingredients for pancakes.

"Me too." Jughead grinned at our little sister. "Just no more playing G&G, okay?"

"Why is everyone so freaked out about it?" JB asked while I mixed together some pancake batter. "It's just pretend quests and costumes."

"Who was in costume?" Jughead asked, pouring himself a cup of coffee.

"Well, Ricky had those ears and I had a crown," Jellybean started. "And the Gargoyle King, of course."

At the mention of the Gargoyle King, my heart stopped. Another King has come to Riverdale, and I had a bad feeling about this one. I didn't let my anxiety show though, and I started melting butter in a pan on the stove.

"Wait, you met the Gargoyle King?" Jughead questioned, turning back toward JB. "Like, in person? What happened?"

"He gave me and Ricky a quest." JB shrugged.

"You talked to him?" Jughead asked. "What did he say?"

"Said that I couldn't enter the Kingdom." JB answered. "Not until I have the Gospel. That was our next quest."

"'The Gospel'..." I mused, pouring some batter into the pan.

"What's the Gospel?" Jughead questioned further.

"I don't know." JB shook her head. "We never found it. But Ricky said that the Gospel is where the Gargoyle King keeps all his secrets."

I hummed and slipped the pancake in front of me.

"Can I have a few of those?" JB asked, playing with her cereal.

"Of course." I nodded. "Jughead? You want some?"

"Yes." Jughead nodded. "I'll go get Sweet Pea."

"Good." I nodded. "Nothing like a good breakfast before school, huh JB?"

"Right." JB nodded.

"You need a ride to school or are you walking?" I asked, plating a pancake as I started another one.

"I'm walking." JB answered. "Thanks, though."

"That's what I'm here for, JB." I smiled, handing her two of the finished pancakes and turning back to the stove.
