Chapter 19 || Cat Tattoo

Dad sat down on the cot in the bunker, which was currently housing Tall Boy's corpse. Of course, I hadn't known about that little fact, otherwise I wouldn't have come. But, I wanted to see what kind of story Jughead managed to come up with, so I leaned against the wall beside my father, trying to keep from rolling my eyes.

"Explain it to me one more time." Dad demanded, playing with his handcuffs as he spoke.

"We drove him to the bus station at gunpoint and got him on a bus out of town." Jughead repeated his well rehearsed story to our father.

"He murdered Joaquin!" Dad stated. "And you thought putting him on a bus was enough punishment? I don't buy it."

"Look, I made a decision." Jughead spewed. "I'm sorry that you don't agree with that, but he's gone."

"What do you have to say about this decision, Kitty?" Dad asked, looking up at me.

"Oh, no." I shook my head. "Don't drag me into this, I want to see how deep a hole he can bury himself in before he decides to ask for my help."

Dad chuckled a bit, eyeing a nervous Fangs.

"I'm going to pretend like I believe you idiots for now." Dad decided, getting to his feet and reaching for his hat. "I've got my hands full finding Hiram's would-be assassin. Next time you see me, have a better story."

Dad kissed my forehead before leaving the bunker. I waited until I heard the car start and take off before I turned and smacked Jughead in the back of the head.

"Are you insane?" I growled, leaning across the table and glaring down at him. "You didn't even move his body? That would have been nice to know before you dragged me down here with that stupid story you fabricated."

"What was I supposed to do?" Jughead countered, rubbing the back of his head. "You sent me down here, and I've never... dealt with a dead body before!"

"You could've woken me up, Forsythe!" I huffed. "I could've had him taken care of, and I could've had dad on our side."

"Whoa, what do you mean?" Fangs asked.

"What does that mean, Kitty?" Sweet Pea added.

"It means that I would've had Tall Boy taken care of before the party even kicked off." I said, rubbing my temples. "I need fresh air. Tall Boy's stink is giving me a headache."

"What are we supposed to do, Kitty?" Jughead asked as I started toward the ladder.

"Do as dad said," I sighed, leaning against the ladder and staring at the three clueless boys. "Come up with a better story."

After a few days of peace and quiet, I got a call from Sweet Pea.

"Hey, you need to get down to the bunker." He said anxiously. "Bring your twin."

"Come on, Sweet Pea." I whined. "Why can't you ever call about a date, or something?"

"Uh, um," Sweet Pea stuttered. "I-"

"Jug and I will be down in a few." I sighed. "And, just so you know, I'm over you not making a move."

I hung up the phone and slipped on my Serpent jacket. As I was sliding on my shoes, I called Jughead, groaning as I realized that he'd be irritated about leaving his case.

"Hello?" He answered as I stepped outside of the trailer.

"Hey, Juggy." I tried to sound happy.
