August pullled up to his mother's house and I sighed, dreading walking in. That woman hated me ever since I stepped foot in August's life. But it was his mother and I had to respect her for his sake. It was her birthday today and Chandra was throwing a party for her and we decided to show our face.
"Iight, be nice, Kay," August warned before we walked up the door.
"Me?" I asked, pretending to be shocked, pointing to myself.
"Yes you," He said, hopping out the car. "You know, you and my mama got history."
I rolled my eyes. "You better tell her to be nice. I never do anything."
He kissed my lips, taking my hand before ringing the doorbell. "Just chill."
He rang the doorbell and we waited a little before Chandra and the girls answered.
"Uncle Aug and Auntie Kay!" They said, hugging us. I kissed all their cheeks, and hugged them back.
"Wassup, brats?" August asked, kissing them too. "Y'all buggin' grandma on her birthday?"
"No, we gave her a cake," Kay Kay smiled proudly.
"Can I get a piece?" August asked, scooping her up.
"No, its only for grandma," Kay Kay said. He tickled her and they went on their to the kitchen.
"Wassup, girl? I'm shocked you came," Chandra said, hugging me. I sighed.
"Trust me I was thinking about it," I said, closing the front door and walking in. "But that was the past and hopefully she's ready to move past it."
"Yeah, hopefully," She said, guiding me to the backyard to where August and Kay Kay was talking to his mom. Once me and Chandra walked in she got quiet quickly.
"Ma, you remember Kalissa?" August said, after an awkward silence.
"Happy Birthday, Shelia" I said, smiling as best as could as she stared at me with daggers. "Its nice seeing you again."
"Yeah, thanks, me too," She replied, dryly, turning to look at August. "August come help in the kitchen for a minute, please."
They walked into the kitchen and I took a seat next to Kay Kay as Chandra joined me.
"Don't even trip, girl, she gonna get over it by dinner, trust me," Chandra assured.
"Its alright, I'm cool," I sighed, watching the girls run around, playing whatever game they were playing. After a while all 5 of us were playing pin the tail on the donkey while August and his mother were still in the kitchen. I was starting to have fun, until the doorbell rang a while after.
"Who else is coming?" I asked, following Chandra to the door.
"Well, I invited Travis and his girlfriend. I don't know who else came," She said, opening up the door. My blood started to boil at the sight of Lola.
"Hey y'all," She smiled, hugging Chandra and then me. I mentally stopped myself from yanking her by her weave. "Where's the birthday girl?"
"In the kitchen," Chandra said, sharing the same expression as me. Lola disappeared in the kitchen and I looked at Chandra again.
"Cha, this night is not gonna end well," I said, in more of a promise.
"Girl, chill," Chandra laughed, hugging me tightly. "Its gonna be okay."
She guided me to the kitchen where Lola and Shelia was having a full blown conversation.
"I'm so happy you showed up, baby," Shelia hugged Lola again, looking down at the roses she brought. "The roses are beautiful."
