I don't know who moved first, but one second I am in my seat, the next I am being held against the floor by Rylan. Kayn is straining against my grip on his arm, keeping him from attacking my father or Rylan. I can't tell who he wants to punch more, my father for pissing me off, or Rylan for restraining me. I shift my body, pulling against Kayn to get his attention. His eyes shoot to my own, and the color in his eyes tells me he is close to shifting.

"Shit." Rylan mutters above me. I hum in agreement, completely understanding Kayn's reaction, as well as my own.

Alpha wolves are used to being in charge of their pack, themselves, and their mates. They take it upon themselves to protect each of these things without hesitation. In this instance, my father is threatening Kayn's hold on his pack by stating that he has more power than my mate. Including the fact that my father has been pissed at me since the beginning of the ceremony, mine and Kayn's emotions have built up.

Rylan slowly slips off my back, not wanting to set Kayn off into a shift. My father, wisely, hasn't moved a muscle. When Rylan is crouched by the couch, I sit up on my knees. Kayn's eyes flick back and forth between me and my father, wanting to attack him but also wanting to protect me. I know the thoughts going through his mind, as the same ones are swirling through my own brain. I roll my eyes at the situation, and tug Kayn over to me. He doesn't need to be told twice as he bands his arms around my torso, laying his forehead against my own. He closes his eyes and sighs, ignoring everything going on for a second. I drop my hold on his arm and wrap my arms around his neck. A small sound comes from deep in his chest, a mix between a whimper and a purr.

We sit like this for a few minutes, obviously irritating my father by the scoff coming from him. After Kayn has cooled down, he pulls his head away from my own. He meets my gaze with a troubled look settled into his features. Even his own wolf knows something bad is happening.

Rylan taps my leg with her toe, inclining her head toward my father's desk. I look over, raising my eyebrows. My father is no longer glaring at us, nor does he look angry. He honestly looks sad. No one moves, even when he starts to speak.

"I am truly sorry to have to do this, but his actions must have consequences. I have to set an example or everyone will start breaking the rules!" He throws me a glare at this. I'm too stunned to speak, if he is even thinking about laying a finger on Kayn something bad is going to happen.

Kayn stays as still as possible, his arms banded around me tighten, the only outward response he shows. One glance at his eyes shows me just how much inner turmoil he is facing. If he accepts this punishment, it means he is considered lower than my father. And that is a blow to his power and his pack, that he cannot accept. But he is scared of what will happen if he refuses. I don't understand his fear, until the door opens. About half a dozen warriors filter into the room, with more standing outside.

I snarl loudly, when I realize my father's plan. In order to ensure that Kayn accepts him punishment, my father is going to have him restrained in a cell. Kayn stiffens beside me as he too comes to the same conclusion. I'm only slightly worried about the amount of people here, until I see Rylan's father. As the beta steps into the room, I glare at my father. The amount of men in this room would be enough to keep an Alpha down, but not two. I hope.

"Now, I need you three to cooperate." I glance over and see Rylan sneering with her lips curled into a snarl. She may be a pushover at times, but not when it truly matters.

"Like hell." I mutter. Kayn shifts me in his grip and fully faces my father. My face is morphed into a full blown snarl, and my eyes are completely blue. My wolf is begging to be let out, she wants to defend her mate against anything she has to.

"If I go nicely, will you protect Kira?" He asks, the words echoing through the small room. I falter, my anger slipping. He seriously thinks that I will let him be locked up just to avoid retributions? Hell no. I snarl, loud enough that even the warriors outside the room flinch.

"No." The amount of power I place behind the word makes everyone, including my father, flinch. Everyone's eyes snap to me, and I don't back down an inch.

"Kira, just listen to me-" Kayn starts, causing me to snap my gaze to his. His eyes look as conflicted as my own, but his resolve crackles through his features.

"I don't want you to get hurt." He murmured, pulling me tightly into a hug.

"Then don't fight me."

Surprised, he pulls back. He may have made up his mind that this is the only way to keep me safe is for him to go along with my father's wishes. But I have made up my mind that I'm not letting him do that.

Kayn sighs, stepping away from me. Several guards step forward and begin to lead him from the room. I snap and leap at the nearest warrior. If they think they can just take him away, they are surely mistaken.

Sorry about the long wait! I have had a lot going on with school recently, and haven't had nearly enough time to write. I hope you all enjoy this chapter (and don't hate me for yet another cliffhanger).
