Kayn's hand is still entwined with mine, as we follow my father's stiff figure to his office. Rylan walks next to me, a smirk twitching on her lips as she peeks glances at Kayn and I. Glancing over at her, I lean over and whisper in her ear.

"Wanna bet this conversation pisses my father off?"

She laughs, leaning over to whisper back to me.

"Oh, definitely."

We share a mischievous grin before I am brought back to the problem at hand as Kayn tightens his grip on my fingers. I glance over at him but his gaze doesn't waver from my father's back for a second.

I bump my hip into his as we stop outside my father's office. He looks over at me. He opens his mouth to say something when my father whips around and snarls at our entwined hands.

Kayn glares at my father, a quiet growl leaking through his teeth, daring my father to comment further. I smile slyly at my father, trying to get him to comment. I know it won't end well, but I am so tired of him being all up in my business lately.

"Well, as fun as this little pissing contest is-" Rylan raises her eyebrows at me, "we have things to discuss. And I am pretty sure this isn't it."She looks between my father and I as she speaks.

My father growls, clearly pissed about being interrupted. But he pushes open the wooden doors and we follow him inside. I send Rylan an incredulous look, exasperated at her interrupting my fun. When I turn around, my eyes take in the room. It looks completely normal again: the scratches no longer marring the wooden floor, the desk sitting in its original position, and a new blanket is draped over the back of the couch.

I raise an eyebrow at my father, sliding gracefully onto the couch tugging Kayn to my side. He sits beside me, placing himself between my father's desk and I. Rylan plops down on my other side, bouncing like a child. I roll my eyes playfully at her.

My father clears his throat, not happy at being ignored. My gaze settles on him in the form of a glare.

"Now that I have your guys' attention... The betas have already been informed of my decision on this matter. Kayn, as you are an alpha and you have attacked another wolf, without reason, during -"

"Excuse me?" I say, my tone dripping with poison. My father raises his eyebrows, not sure why I am pissed yet.

"You are going to deal out a punishment on the grounds that you think he had no reason?!" I continue, feeling Kayn tighten his grip on my hand, urging me to calm down.

"He had no real reason for his actions. Now shut your mouth so I can continue!" He shouts, a snarl lacing his tone. My lip curls on instinct, my wolf getting pissed. If she was out right now, her hackles would be up and she would be snarling loudly.

I open my mouth to snipe back a response when a tough, deep voice covers my own.

"Say that again, and I swear it won't be just a measly pack member who gets hurt." The promise lacing my mate's words gives them a silent edge, like silver slicing through the air.

My father doesn't take kindly to this, his eyes widening at the audacity of my mate. His chest puffs up and his face flushes bright red, the look of utter fury on his face completes his ensemble.

No one moves, each of us glaring at someone, while my father stands up from his desk. He slowly walks over to the couch where we sit, his glare never wavering from Kayn's face.

"Do not threaten me, boy. She may be the next Alpha, but that doesn't mean she doesn't need to learn respect!" My father spits the words at my mate, shifting his glare to me. Kayn snarls at the comment about me, completely ignoring the belittling comment about him.

"Need I remind you that she is also my mate, and alpha female. She doesn't have to respect you if she doesn't feel like it. She is your equal, so you show her some respect."

The grin that overtakes my face at his words makes Rylan peer at me suspiciously. I roll my eyes and bump my shoulder into her own before whispering to my mate.

"Listen here, you little shit-"

"I'm a little shit?" He interrupts me. I scowl at him, completely ignoring the glare my father is pinning me with.

"When you act like this you are. Now, don't take him on with this, we won't get anywhere with this except with one of us with a bloody nose." Kayn frowns slightly at my words, but snickers at the end.

"Are you two done?" Rylan asks, pointing her head towards my father, who looks like he is about to explode. He really doesn't like being ignored. I shrug and this makes Kayn cover his mouth with a hand to suppress another snicker.

"Alright, alright. We're done." I say, mostly just to appease Rylan for the sake of all of us getting out of this room in one piece. One thing I have learned over the years: as much as my father cannot stand disrespect, he hates being ignored even more. Perks of being an alpha, I guess.

We all turn toward my father as he turns away from us and takes his time walking over to his desk. I grant him this time to compose himself before I spout another remark sure to piss him off. When he takes a seat behind his desk, I mutter under my breath, just loud enough that he can hear.

"Damn." I draw out the vowel, sensing Kayn smirking from next to me. My father glares at me, a snarl lifting his upper lip from his teeth. I mirror the action, as do Kayn and Rylan.

"Obviously no one wants to be here, so why don't you cut to the chase and tell us why we are here?" I say, rolling my eyes at the absurdity of the situation. My father's sneer shifts into a sadistic smirk, as if the knowledge he holds over me will change the world.

"You are here, because your mate has attacked another wolf on my ground. As head alpha, it is my job to deal out punishments. As he is another alpha, I cannot hold this punishment over him once he leaves, so as it stands I have no choice but to lock him up for the night and to have his punishment decided publically by the male he attacked."

The room goes silent, my eyes going wide. My father has a death wish. Everything stills, including my father. The calm before the storm. Suddenly, everything is in motion, and I don't know who lunged first, Kayn or me.

Hey guys!!! I know it's been a while since I have updated, but I've been considering a new updating schedule, as I generally don't have the time to update on Tuesdays. I know, as a reader, I hate it when an author only updates once a week. But it would mean I would be updating more regularly.

Happy Friday the 13th!! 🌑🌕

Let me know your thoughts on this and I hope you liked the chapter!
