When I open my eyes, all I'm met with is white. White ceiling, white sheets, squeaky white floor, even the light flaring in through the windows is blindingly white. The walls are the only thing colored in my vision, they remain an orangey oak color.

I sit up in the bed, my eyes adjusting to the light. From the slight bleach smell lingering in the air, I can tell I am in one of the hospital bedrooms. I grumble at the slight pounding in my head.

Rubbing my fingers against my temples, I take in the scent in the room. Smells like my father, mother and Rylan have been in here. But there is also a stronger smell that I can't quite put my finger on. I cross my legs under the thin blankets, and look around for something to drink. Just as I am about to stand up, the door swings open and bangs into the wall.

Rolling my eyes, I turn and see Rylan gaping at me. I smirk and she barrels towards me. Snatching me into a hug, she yells.

"I can't believe you're up!!! It's been too long!! I have so much to tell you!! Did you know that-"

"Rylan, that's enough." My father steps into the doorway behind Rylan and cuts her off. She steps back from me and sheepishly replies.

"Sorry about the yelling." I giggle and scoot my legs to the side so Rylan can sit down. She does so eagerly, and bounces a few times.

"So, how long was I out?" I ask, raising an eyebrow at Rylan's energy level.

"Only like a day or so." My father says over his shoulder as he fills a glass with water for me. After handing me the cup, he stands at the end of the bed. I sip the water, trying not to spill with Rylan's bouncing.

I grumble as a drop of water dribbles down my chin. Rylan laughs and wipes it away, her bouncing stopped for the moment. I place the mostly empty cup on the side table. Wiping the water away, I meet my father's eyes.

"So what happens while I was out?"

"Not much, we caught all the younglings who ambushed you. We have been waiting until you woke up to determine the severity of their actions."

I nod and turn to Rylan.

"So, what exactly happened? I'm kinda blanking what happened towards the end."

Rylan grimaces and fiddles with her fingers against the bedspread.

"I rushed to find your father, and of course, he was in a meeting." She rolls her eyes slightly, but continues.

"I told them what was going on, and I lead them out into the woods. Except I kind of got turned around a few times because of how many scents there were in the forest, I lost yours within them.

"When we got close, I heard your wolf howl. Suddenly, we burst into the clearing, and all hell broke loose. Most of the wolves submitted when they realized their Alphas were there, but some continued to fight.

"When we finally got them rounded up, Kayn had brought you back to the infirmary and yeah." Rylan bites her lip, and I can tell she is hiding something from me. I narrow my eyes at her slightly, opening my mouth the question her when she subtly shakes her head. She doesn't want to say anything with my father here. I nod and face my father.

"What are we doing now?"

"I need you to identify which wolves instigated the attack and then you will need to focus on training your strength back up. We will worry about the rest." He says this with such finality, I almost don't say anything. Almost.

"Shouldn't I help with the punishment, as I will be the next Alpha?"

A low growl exits my father's mouth at the notion. I raise my eyebrows questioningly and he shakes his head.

"No. You will not fight me on this one, I will handle this and you will worry about getting better." I fail to hold back a scoff.

" So, I get injured and suddenly I'm not strong enough to hold my own anymore? Let me guess, I'm not even allowed to do patrols anymore."

I glower at my father as he holds up a single hand, halting my rant.

"You and Rylan may continue your patrols, but remember, Rylan still has to fight as tomorrow is the last day of fighting. But you are not to interfere with these punishments."

I nod, happy enough to get to do patrols again. A slight smile lifts my lips and my father rolls his eyes.

"I'll leave you two to it then. Kira, I want to see you in my office after dinner to talk about the attack." I nod once and he strides out of the room, slamming to door behind him. I roll my eyes and jump from the bed, stretching my muscles.

Rylan stands too, and walks over to the cabinets above the sink. Opening one, she grabs an outfit for me. I smile gratefully and slip into the leggings and cropped tee. By bare feet slap against the floor as I from the room. Rylan hurries to catch me and she hooks a baseball cap onto my knotted, pale hair. I adjust it and link my arm within hers.

As we walk, people step out of he way and incline their heads toward us respectfully. Some stare at me in awe. I scrunch my eyebrows together in confusion. Noticing my look, Rylan whispers in my ear.

"You stood your ground against over fifty wolves by yourself for over five minutes. Your kind of a hero to some people."

I scoff and roll my eyes. Rylan and I weave our way through the halls, headed toward the kitchens. Based on the time, I missed breakfast and I am starved.

Walking into the large kitchen, I watch the wolves weave through each other with accuracy with my mother directing them. When she her gaze catches mine, she rushes over to me.

Holding my face in her hands she clicks her tongue.

"Kira! I'm so glad your okay!! You must be hungry! I'll have Molli bring food up to your room. Now shoo, your interrupting my organization!"

She ushers Rylan and I back out the doors. Snatching an apple off one of the counters, I lead Rylan from the room.

"Goodbye mother!" I call over my shoulder as we enter into the hallway. Rylan laughs as I take a bite of my apple.

I could have been in a hospital room for a week and she would still scold me for interrupting her work. I roll my eyes and lead Rylan towards my bedroom, intent on finding out what she kept from me earlier.

I hope you guys enjoyed this little sneak peak into Kira's family life. Her parents do love her, but they both have other things to do within the pack and they don't want her in the way. Hence why she does patrols, it keeps her busy and away from them.

A question: Did this chapter seem a bit off from the others I have written? I feel like it had a different feel to it, but it might just be me. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed what you have read!
