The Two Alphas

Chapter Fourteen

After sitting for a little while, Rylan passes a plastic cup of water over to me. After grabbing her own, she settles back down on the grass beside me. Finally, Rylan breaks the silence.

"Kira? How do you think I did?" Rylan asks, uncertainly. I raise an eyebrow at her while I finish the rest of my water. 

"You did great, Ry." I assure her, but she stays quiet. I look over at her to see her peering over my shoulder. I glance behind me and see a wolf walking towards us, his head held high. I scoff and turn back to Rylan.

"I wonder what he wants." I mutter. Rylan smirks and winks at me. 

"Does it matter he's hot!!!" She yells. Yep, normal Rylan is back. I roll my eyes and stand, tugging Rylan to her feet as well.A smirk is lifting the guy's lips as he approaches. He heard Rylan, everyone in two square miles of us heard Rylan. 

"Well, well well. If it isn't the hot shot Alpha's daughter." 

"Am I supposed to know who you are?" I ask haughtily, not liking his tone towards me. He laughs.

"Not hardly, seeing as how you are so cocky and stuck up you are." 

Rylan let's out a low growl and I smirk at the guy. 

"Good, seeing as I'm not supposed to know who you are, I will be leaving now." I turn around and link my arm with Rylan's. We start to walk away when the guy puts his hand on my shoulder, flipping me around. I growl, deeply in my throat, and he shies away. 

"What do you want?" I snap. He straightens up and folds his arms behind his back. 

"You are supposed to be fighting me later on in the competition." 

"So?"

"So, you and I know that your fight earlier was nothing. It was too easy. You need someone harder to fight."

"And you're suggesting?" My arm unlinks from Rylan's and I place my hands on my hips. 

"You and I skip the other fights and just get to the interesting one." He raises his eyebrows and I scoff.

"Oh, you're one of those people." I roll my eyes and turn to leave. 

"What kind of people?" He asks, trailing next to Rylan and I as we push through the crowds again. 

"The kind that ignore the little things just to skip to the end product." 

He stays quiet after this. Rylan nudges me and leans over in my ear. 

"That's Cody. His brother is the beta of the Blood Moon pack." 

I glance behind us, where the guy, Cody, is still trailing behind me. His eyes are watching my back and I scowl at him. His eyes jump up to mine and don't waver.

With a scoff, I turn back around so I don't run into anyone. 

Soon enough, we step out of the crowd by my parents. Cody is still on my heels. 

"Mother, Father." I acknowledge them both with an incline of my head. They turn around to face me, obviously aurpised at my formality. My mother's eyes flicker back to Cody for a second, before settling back on mine.

"Hello Kira, what is on your mind?" My father asks, looking at Cody. 

"Cody has a stupid idea, and I need you to put him straight." I say, raising my chin up.

"Well, what is it?"

"Cody..." I trail off. He steps forward and inclines his head respectfully toward my father. 

"Hello, sir. I was just admitting that Kira's last fight seemed to easy for someone of her strengths." 

"So, what are you suggesting?" My father asks, his tone demanding. 

"Let her skip the other fights and get straight to hers and mine." He states this boldly. My father raises an eyebrow at Cody. 

I start to open my mouth to tell my father that the idea is crazy when a growl erupts from behind my father. As my father steps aside, I see Kayn. He is glaring at Cody. 

Cody lowers his head submissively to his Alpha. 

"What is going on here?" His voice rings authoritatively and oddly deep. 

"Alpha, I was simply suggesting that we skip ahead with the competition so that Kira may fight with someone of her skill level." Cody says, his eyes cast downward. 

"And why would you do that?" Kayn asks with an eyebrow raise.

"Because she can do much better than a two scrawny kids from the lowest packs."

"And you suppose you can beat her? Or are you just trying to take her spot at the top and kick her down the rankings?" 

"Neither Alpha, I just think it is unfair that she it stick fighting those below her when she could end her part right now." 

Kayn opens his mouth to speak again when I speak up, angry that he thinks I am weaker than him. 

"Excuse me?! You little piece of-"

My mother cuts me off by wrapping a hand around my mouth. I jerk my head from under her grip and go to talk again but my father speaks instead. 

"If Kira would like to do this, then I am willing to bend the rules a little bit." 

I close my mouth and stare at Cody. He won't raise his eyes to meet mine and I growl at his reluctance to own up. 

"I'll do it, after dinner today. I want everyone to be in attendance. Show them what happens when you mess with the Alpha's Daughter."
