Temporary Love

*Y/N's P.O.V*

I force myself to look into Lauren's eyes and I almost look away, feeling guilty for the pain I see in them. She waits a few seconds before responding and the silence is deafening.

"Wait, are you being serious right now?" Lauren asks.

"I-" a sigh escapes my lips. "I just, I don't know maybe it's better if we give it a few days."

"Are you seriously siding with my parents right now?" she asks. "I thought you wanted this."

"I do," I reply. "It's not that I don't, it's just that... I don't want you to regret anything. I mean, I know how important your family is to you and I already made things weird between you and your parents and I just don't want to make things worse like usual."

There's a shift in Lauren's eyes and she pulls me closer to her. "Hey, you're not going to ruin anything. Lisa called Christina and she's gonna help us sort everything out. You don't have to leave. Please, just stay."

"Lauren, I wish I could believe you but if I stay I'll just make things worse for everyone."

"I believe in you and in us, whatever that might mean. You're not going to give up on something that hasn't even started yet, are you?" Her brown eyes stare into my own as my mind spins with doubts and fears.

"How are you not scared?" I ask her in a whisper. "How are you so sure everything will be fine?"

"I'm not," she says. "I'm honestly a little terrified, but I'm sick of letting fear rule my life. I.. I like you Y/N and I don't want to run from this."

I stare at her in shock, trying to somehow come up with a response. "Lauren, I-" I'm cut off by the sound of a car door slamming shut.

I turn and see, a very angry, Christina walking towards the front door. She stops when she sees us, her angry face turning into a sympathetic one. "I told you I would talk with my family if they ever said something to you," she says. "And that's exactly what I'm here to do."

She gives me a small smile before walking into the house. Once she's gone, Lauren turns her attention back to me. "Wow, I'd hate to be on the other side of Christina's glare this time."

"Is she really going to talk to her parents for us?" I ask.

Lauren shakes her head. "For you. Christina's not only the oldest girl but the leader of the band, if she's okay with you they have no choice but to deal with it."

"She's really going to go through all that trouble for me?"

"Of course. We all would, especially me. I'd do anything for you, Y/N."

As I register her words, I feel a huge weight lift from my chest. Almost as if my mind finally caught up with my heart. Even though being with Lauren was scary, the intense amount of feelings and the desire inside of me, not to mention the consequences we could both face, I knew it would be worth it in the end. Because for once in my life, there was someone willing to put everything at risk for me and I know I'm willing to do the same for her and that's enough.

Lauren looks at me, expectantly, as I gather my thoughts. "I like you too, Lauren, so so much. It's honestly a little overwhelming and scary. But you're right, there's only here, there's only us, and there's no day but today. I'm done living in fear, I choose love, and Lauren, I choose you and us, whatever that might mean."

Lauren's smile at my words shines almost as bright as the sun and she, somehow, pulls me even closer to her. My hands rest on her cheeks as I press my lips to hers. I feel almost weightless as my worries melt from the intensity of Lauren's kiss. We pull away right as the door opens again. I turn my head and see Lisa standing there, an exasperated look on her face.

"I don't want to interrupt your cute moment but Christina might need our backup in the kitchen," Lisa says. "And by ours I mean yours, Lauren. They need to hear from you that you like Y/N."

"We'll be there in a second," I reply. "Just let me do something first."

"Keep it PG, lovebirds." She winks before slipping back inside.

I roll my eyes but smile anyway. Once I'm sure she's not eavesdropping, I begin to speak. "Today has been insane for a multitude of reasons and I totally understand if your answer isn't yes but." I take a deep breath before continuing. "Lauren, will you do me the honor of being my girlfriend?"

"Of course, you dork."

"Finally!" I hear Lisa yell. "Took you long enough, Y/N!"

"Hey! That's mean."

"It's not mean if it's true," she says. "Now get your slow butts in here before I drag you."

Lauren rolls her eyes before giving me a quick kiss. She smiles as she pulls away and I grab her hand before we walk back inside. Dani stares at us as we walk into the living room and her eyes widen.

"Did you guys finally get your crap together and get together?" She asks, way too loudly.

"Yes, Dani, we did."

"Only took you like forever," Dani says.

"Okay, this isn't make fun of me hour so y'all can calm down," I say with a pout. "I'd say I'm going home but um yeah."

"You are home," Lauren says softly, a shy smile on her face. "You're with me."

Who gave her the right to be so damn wholesome? I might cry. "You're so cute, I'm overwhelmed."

"Just don't run again. Please."

"I promise."

"Okay, why am I crying?" Lisa says, successfully ruining a very wholesome moment.

"Lisa, shut up they were having a moment!" Dani yells.

"Sorry about ruining the uh moment but if you guys could join me that'd be nice," I hear Christina say.

I turn and give her a nod before giving Lauren my attention again. "Well, this is going to be fun."

"Fun is not the word I would use but sure," she replies. "At least we're in it together."
