*Y/N's P.O.V*

Lauren grimaces before running a hand through her hair and taking a deep breath. "I bet you five bucks someone is gonna storm out of here before the end of the conversation," Lauren says quietly as we make our way back to the table.

"Ten bucks if it's you," I reply.

"Or you. It'd be the second time you dramatically left a room today."

"Don't remind me."

Lauren places a sympathetic hand on my arm and I smile. I'm not sure if I'm smiling because of Lauren and the fact that she actually seems to care about me or because I want her to stop worrying about me so much.

We sit in awkward silence until the only people left at the table are us, her parents, Lisa and Dani.

"Dani, Lisa go join your sister in the living room," Mike says.

Dani and Lisa make eye contact with each other and Dani sighs. She leaves the kitchen but leaves Lisa with us. Mike looks at Lisa, waiting for her to leave but she just crosses her arms. "If you're trying to get rid of me, it's not going to work. I'm staying."

"Fine," Mike says. "But don't interrupt."

"Can't make any promises."

"Look girls, we don't want you to think we're interrogating or anything," Lynne says. "We just want you to be honest with us."

Okay, this shouldn't be too bad then. Hopefully.

"I'll get to the point," Mike says as he leans forward a little. His voice is soft yet still firm and for some reason I feel an anxious knot start to form in my stomach. "We're worried about you, Lauren. Christina told us you've been late to at least seven band meetings, you've skipped at least three, you've been distracted while filming and you've been late every day you've had to film with the girls. Not to mention, we know you've been staying up past midnight. It's just not like you."

Lauren waits a few seconds before replying. "I don't know what you're worried about, I can make my own decisions. Plus, it's not like every time I was late it had something to do with Y/N. It's not her fault I was late."

"We're not saying it's anyone's fault," Lynne says. "We're just saying you should think things through before you do something you'll regret."

And suddenly I feel like the conversation isn't about being late anymore. They seem like cool people though, I wouldn't have expected them to ask if Lauren and I were romantically involved like that.

"I appreciate it but trust me when I say that I'm responsible and old enough to think things through on my own," Lauren says.

"But don't you think you and Y/N have been spending, um, too much time together?"

Lisa immediately sits up straighter at her moms question and I wait for her to say something. "Uh, no offense mom but Dani spends the same amount of time, if not more, with Emmyn so I don't understand why you feel like asking Lauren these things is necessary."

"Well it's not really the same thing is it?" Mike speaks up.

Oh boy, here we go. We're getting into risky territory. Now, I could keep quiet and let them talk it out or I could butt in and, potentially, make things worse. I'm already here, might as well speak up. I've already spent too much time letting people say things about me without speaking up.

"Um with all due respect, sir. There's clearly something else here that's bothering you and I think it'd be better for all of us if you were just honest about what it is. Arguing about something pointless isn't going to help anyone," I say. Mike's eyes fall on me and I immediately regret opening my dumb mouth.

"Look, Y/N, I'm glad Lauren and you get along well but I don't know how comfortable I am with having my children hang around..." he pauses as if searching for the right words to describe me.

If he says someone like you, I'm running out the door. "Someone like you." Well, guess I'm losing ten dollars today.

I stand up, the room seeming to close in on me. "Thanks for the lovely dinner, Mr. and Mrs. Cimorelli but um I think it's best if I just leave."

I quickly make my way out the kitchen and, somehow, manage to get myself to open the front door. As soon as I step outside, I am greeted with a cold breeze that brings me back to reality. The reality being, I have nowhere else to go.

I sigh before taking a few steps away from the door. I wait a few seconds until I hear the sound of a door slamming. I turn and see Lauren approaching me, annoyance clear on her face, but as soon as she gets closer to me the mask falls. I notice the tears gathering in her eyes and an immense amount of guilt begins to suffocate me.

"Lauren, I'm so sorry I didn't mean to-" She cuts me off by pressing her lips to mine. Almost as if on instinct, my hands find their way around her neck and hers around my waist. Like somehow, we both knew that we needed this, needed the comfort of each other, more than we had originally wanted to show.

I force myself to pull away due to the burning in my lungs from the lack of oxygen. "That was... interesting."

"The conversation or the kiss?" Lauren asks.

"Both, but one was definitely better than the other one."

"I'm sorry about my parents, I don't know what they were going off about."

I bite my lip and stare at a tree behind Lauren so I don't see the hurt my words are going to cause. "Maybe they're right, Lauren. Maybe we're moving too fast. It might be best if we stop before things get worse. You and your family have an amazing bond and I don't want to be the reason it gets ruined. Maybe you should think about everything before we continue whatever this is."
