*Y/N's P.O.V*
Lauren and I walk into the kitchen hand in hand. Her parents are seated at the table and their eyes immediately fall on our hands. We stand there awkwardly, waiting for someone to say something, and Lauren's thumb traces comforting circles on the back of my hand.
"Are y'all going to just stand there or is someone going to say something?" Lisa's loud voice cuts through the silence. I can't help but laugh at her words and I feel the tension from the room lift a little.
"Mom, dad," Lauren says before taking a deep breath. "Y/N's my girlfriend. I really, really like her and uh yeah."
I squeeze her hand, hoping to help her not feel as nervous. I have to admit that she's really adorable when she's nervous. Not the time, Y/N.
"You're gay?" Her dad asks her and I, for some reason, have to hold the urge to roll my eyes. No, she's totally not gay, she's just dating a girl because YOLO.
"Something like that, yeah. I'm not entirely sure what label fits me but I'm definitely not straight," she replies.
"You're not just doing this for fame, right?" He asks. "I know the band's important to you but there's no need to go to such extreme levels for-"
"With all due respect, sir," I interrupt. "Lauren, is many things but she's not an attention seeker or a fame seeker or whatever the word is. She's the most authentic person I know, and she would never change herself for anyone since she's also stubborn as heck. I understand that it might be a shock to you but I assure you, this is just Lauren being her full authentic self."
The room goes quiet once again as everyone, including myself, processes my words. I have no idea where that came from and I'm a little afraid I went too far but seeing the way Lauren is smiling shows me that I did the right thing.
"Could you girls give us a minute or two?" Lynne asks, breaking the silence. "Mike and I have a lot to talk about."
"It's getting late, you girls should go to sleep we'll talk tomorrow," Mike says.
I nod and Lauren leads us into the living room. As soon as we're in the living room, Lisa engulfs me in a hug. I hug her back, a little confused at how tight her hold on me is. "Lise, I love you and this hug is nice but I can't breathe."
She let's go of me, giving me a teary-eyed smile. "Sorry, it's just I'm really glad we met you. Actually, I'm really glad Lauren met you. You're really good for her, Y/N. No matter what anyone says, don't forget that."
"Thank you, Lisa. That means a lot," I reply, a little stunned by how sincere she is.
"Don't you dare cry, Lisa, or else we're all gonna cry," Dani warns. "And trust me, no one wants to see us all to cry right now."
"Look at that, Dani's right for once," Christina says as she joins us in the living room.
"Rat," Dani mumbles.
"What'd you say?"
"Nothing!"
Christina rolls her eyes at her younger sister before looking over at me. "It's getting late, do you want a ride home or?"
I look over at Lauren, who senses my discomfort and immediately moves to stand beside me, her arm around my waist. "About that," I say nervously. "Um, Lauren's not the only one that came out today."
"It didn't go well, did it?" Lisa asks. A part of me knows she already knows the answer but I nod anyway.
"Yeah, I'm moving out sooner than I thought. Which means I have no place to go, other than here."
"I told her she could stay here with me," Lauren says. "At least for a few weeks."
Christina nods before speaking. "That's fine. I'll help you figure something else out but for now just stay with Lauren. No funny business though."
"I can't make any promises, we're really funny," I reply.
Christina rolls her eyes but a smile appears on her face. "Just go to bed before I change my mind and make you live with Lisa."
"Yes, ma'am." I say. I hesitate for a second before giving her a quick hug. She pats the top of my head before hugging Lauren.
"So, we're totally gonna stay up tonight right?" Dani asks.
"Very funny, Dan but I'd rather just go to bed. I'm tired."
"Didn't you take a nap before dinner?" Dani asks.
"I'm emotionally exhausted, Dani, stop judging me."
"Fine," she huffs. "But we're going out for breakfast tomorrow."
"Whatever you say, buddy."
Lisa smiles at me once more and I smile back, even though my jaw's a little sore from all the smiling I've been doing. "I'll see you tomorrow, alright?"
I nod and she hugs Lauren before walking out the door with Christina and Amy, the smaller one looking extremely tired. Honestly, Amy's a mood.
Once they leave, Lauren grabs my hand and leads me to her room. "I'm warning both of you, if I hear one unholy sound through these walls I will kick the door down," Dani says.
"Calm down, Dani. I am totally capable of sleeping in the same bed as my girlfriend without being 'unholy' with her," I reply.
Dani raises an eyebrow. "Sure, you are. Just don't do anything that would make Christina angry."
"Most things make her angry so that's not fair," Lauren says.
"No, most things make her annoyed but not everything makes her mad so just be careful." She glares at both of us before walking to her room.
"Come on," Lauren pulls me towards her. "I've been dying to spend time with my girlfriend."
A huge grin makes it way into my face as I hear her say "girlfriend" and it's accompanied by a thundering in my chest. "I love hearing you say that," I say.
"I love saying it," she says as her arms wrap around my waist. "You have no idea how happy you make me."
"I think I have an idea," I reply as I snake my arms around her neck. "'Cause you make me pretty darn happy too."
Lauren leans down and softly presses her lips to mine. "Thank you for doing all of this for me," I whisper once we pull away.
"Thank you for staying. I promise you won't regret it."
"Trust me, I could never regret being with you."
"Aw, your cheesy lines are back," Lauren coos.
"Shush, you know you love my cheesy lines."
"Your words not mine," she mumbles.
I roll my eyes before pulling her back in for another kiss. Her lips melting away all the stress of the day.
