Chapter: S E V E N

“The only female Shayne cares about is Addison” –Tavi

“Mommy! Look at the penguins!” Addison exclaimed as we walked through the cold part of the Zoo.

We stood in front of a glass that showed penguins hopping around and enjoying the cold temperature. I can admit that they do look cute, but I’m just not an animal type of person.

        “They look cute,” I smiled.

“Can I have one?” She looked up at Rashad with pleading eyes as he stood next to me.

I looked over at Rashad with a smile on my face waiting for him to answer her.

“Uh… I can’t afford a penguin,” He came up with a quick excuse.

“Awe…” She pouted and looked back at the glass, “I just want one,”

I grabbed Addison by the hand before she started to throw a fit. The last thing I need today is a temper tantrum from her.

We walked out of the Polar section of the Zoo and were met with the humidity outside. From where we were standing we could hear the lions roaring and the monkey’s going wild. We’ve walked around this entire park twice and she still wanted to see everything there is to see.

“Can you take me into there?” Addison pointed to the building where the birds were located.

I quickly shook my head, “You know mommy is scared of birds,”

She looked over at Rashad, “Rashad can you take me to see the birds?”

He nodded his head, “Yeah c’mon,” He bent down so that she could get on his back and they slowly started to walk away, “Your mom is a punk,”

        Addison giggled, “Yeah,”

I shook my head and grabbed my phone out of my pocket so that I could call Sandra. I wanted to fill her in on Shayne’s status and everything that happened at the jail.

“Hey,” Sandra answered on the third ring, “How’s Shayne?”

I sighed, “He’s fine… I mean we really didn’t talk about what happened but he’s not dying,”

“Good,” she sighed of relief, “But what did you two talk about?”
